Oasis -A Haven for Women and Children Incorporated is a Nonprofit 501 (C) (3) organization located in Paterson, New Jersey. We carry out educational and social services programs that help local women enter and succeed in the workforce and help children flourish academically. We also operate a soup kitchen and provide emergency food, clothing, and social support to city residents in need.
JOB SUMMARY
This position requires the GED teacher to have a bachelor’s degree or master’s degree with possible Adult Education experience. This position requires the GED teacher to be certified in secondary education Math or English. The GED teacher will support virtual students as they prepare to earn their GED. Classes are fast-paced, and the primary focus is on the GED test preparation materials. The program meets three nights a week for 10 weeks during the Fall and Spring Semesters of 2024-2025.
JOB DUTIES
1. Understands and executes and teach specific GED lessons using specific GED prep curriculum presented by the teacher.
2. Administers practice tests for students to determine GED test readiness in planned sessions.
3. Works closely with partner teacher and student services manager to execute the GED program as described in the job summary.
4. Consistently implements procedures concerning daily attendance and appropriate behaviors for virtual classrooms as outlined in the program.
5. Updates and maintains student records as outlined by the student services manager.
6. Encourages students to use non classroom time to prepare for GED testing.
7. Experience in the use of Google suite products.
8. Reviews assignments returned by students in Google Classroom; provides feedback that leads to further success.
9. Understands appropriate behaviors for virtual programs and online class delivery.
10. Experience with teaching high school students' algebra, geometry and/or physics.
11. Perform other related duties, directed by the Student Services Manager / Director of Education.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Teacher certification and bachelor’s or advanced degree required.
2. Demonstrated ability to set and achieve academic goals for students to meet success in the program.
3. Can work within a wide variety of cultural, gender, educational, and religious differences.
4. Ability to multi-task supporting students in their individual program needs within the timeframe of the semester sessions.
5. Excellent communication and time management skills.
6. Knowledge of technology Microsoft office applications and be proficient in Google Suite products.
7. Continues to keep informed regarding GED changes and updates to GED requirements.
8. Knowledge of NJ GED testing protocols and procedures.
All potential new hires will be required to submit to a multi-level background check (Fingerprinting and CARI check).
