At the City of Bellaire, a part-time Fire Inspector is responsible for the day-to-day fire and life-safety hazard inspections in the City of Bellaire. The purpose of this position is to provide fire prevention services and assist the Assistant Fire Chief in the Fire Prevention Division of the Fire Department. This is accomplished by completing special assignments, investigating complaints and disputes, resolving compliance issues, assisting in plans review for new and existing construction to include fire suppression and detection for commercial and residential properties, directing fire drills, and responding to emergencies when needed.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Inspects commercial, industrial, and residential establishments to identify and document existing or potential fire hazards in accordance with applicable codes, standards, policies, and procedures Orders correction of dangerous conditions.
- Inspects schools for fire hazards, conducts fire drills, and educates students on hazards and drill procedures
- Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with others, including inspectors or field services workers of other municipal departments, private contractors, and private business owners in support of program goals and strategic planning
- Receives and investigates complaints and recommends or orders methods of correction. Escalates to a supervisor when necessary
- Prepares reports of inspections and maintains files on all records
- Prepares for, and participates in legal proceedings presenting information accurately and professionally
- Exercises independent decision-making skills
- Regular and consistent attendance for the assigned work schedule is essential
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Partial College Education; Completed 30 Credit Hours
- Current Texas Commission on Fire Protection (TCFP) Certifications
- Basic Structure Firefighter (or higher)
- Fire Inspector I & II
- Plans Examiner
- Three (3) years of experience in fire protection
LICENSES, CERTIFICATES, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS
- Valid Driver’s License
- Reliable transportation and liability insurance
- Appointment will be conditional upon successful completion of the following pre-employment checks:

- Controlled substance screening
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Previously trained in National Incident Management System (NIMS) IS-700, IS-800, IS-100, ICS-300, ICS-400
