Description
The Alpha Kappa Chapter is looking for their next cook. The Cook is responsible for preparing and/or directing the preparation of food to be served, complying with all applicable sanitation, health and personal hygiene standards, and following established food production programs and procedures. The position is responsible for appropriate use of house supplies and equipment to minimize loss, waste and fraud. This position requires an individual to work about 25 hours a week when the collegians are in residence. The individual will serve about 45 members on Monday and 18 members Tuesday - Thursday. The hours are generally 3pm to 7pm Monday-Thursday.The Cook is responsible for preparing and/or directing the preparation of food to be served, complying with all applicable sanitation, health and personal hygiene standards and following established food production programs and procedures. Requirements
Essential Functions
• Coordinates menu planning and ordering for daily menus and special events.
• Plans nutritious, well balanced meals, food preparation, presentation and for the proper care and storage of all food as includes grocery shopping.
• Uses kitchen equipment and other kitchen supplies safely and responsibly.
• Under the supervisor of the House Director maintains a balanced food budget.
• Maintains a current inventory of food products and rotates stock.
• Assists with purchasing food supplies locally to supplement food orders.
• Maintains cleanliness of refrigerators, freezers, storage areas, stoves, equipment, utensils, sinks, counters, cupboards, floors, etc.
• Prohibits loitering in the kitchen and unauthorized use of keys and food items.
• Adheres to University, House Corporation Board and Chapter policies and rules.
Non-Essential Functions
• All other duties as assigned.
Experience: Prior experience in a related food service position serving large volumes of meals. A valid and current ServSafe certification required.
Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Culinary education with certification and/or degree preferred.
