Café Barista
As a Barista you are tasked with preparing and serving a variety of handcrafted hot and cold beverages, to awaken and empower our guests. You will be a brand advocate, educating guests on our drink, food, & pastry menus, making recommendations based on their preferences, up-selling special items, and taking orders. A successful Barista will be guest oriented, and lead by example through what they say and do, always putting our guests first. Ultimately you will ensure that all our guests have a legendary Café experience.
Duties/Responsibilities
- Work environment organization. Keeping workspace clean and organized, according to local state and city health department and FairWave policies and regulations.
- Shift management. Complying with attendance rules and being available to show up at work for your scheduled shift on a regular basis. You are tasked with not only being timely to shifts but ensuring that you are engaged during the shift to provide the best quality service to our guests. Being engaged means using the time on shift to add value to the guest experience, when the line is not busy, you will be proactive and find a way to add value to the overall Café experience.
- Task refinement and feedback. You will be tasked with not only learning our policies/procedures but being open to feedback on our processes to elevate your knowledge of day-to-day coffee operations. This requires a level of curiosity and brave accountability, to ensure that feedback is understood and implemented properly.
- Guest engagement. You will lead by example through what you say and do when it comes to going above and beyond for our guests, from running food/drinks when necessary to answering their questions and addressing their concerns. You will treat all our guests with respect and kindness, finding ways on a daily basis to elevate the overall guest experience.
- Inventory management. You will replenish items as needed at the direction of your Shift Lead or Direct Leader, this could include but is not limited to, replenishing the coffee bean supply, stocking coffee brewing equipment, and merchandising retail products.
- Cash handling. You will be accountable for running transactions on our point-of-sale system (POS) and will be tasked with providing correct change to guests so that your drawer is in balance. This will require a basic understanding of cash handling, how a point-of-sale system works, and our FairWave cash handling processes/procedures.
- Store collaboration. All Team Members are vital to daily Cafe operations, and as needed Team Members will flex their knowledge, skills, and abilities to help other Departments inside the Café as needed, which could include but is not limited to doing dishes, running food, fixing errors on guest orders, etc.
Qualifications & Skills
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent preferred.
- Prior café or coffee shop experience a plus.
- Familiarity with telephone, office, and point-of-sale software.
- Food handlers’ card and liquor license (when applicable).
- Must be able to lift 50 lbs. to waist height.
- Must be able to lift 30 lbs. above your head.
- Ability to work a flexible work schedule and meet business demands, including weekends and holidays.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Capability to stand on your feet for a shift of 8 hours or more at one time.
- Customer-focused (customer is always the top priority).
