About the Job

The School of Public Health, Division of Epidemiology and Community Health is seeking applications for one 50% (.5 FTE) Research Professional 1 (8352P1) to support the Atherosclerosis Risk in Communities (ARIC) Study through December 31, 2024. ARIC is a multi-site study of individuals, now aged 80-100 years, who have been followed for over 35 years to better understand risk factors for cardiovascular disease, dementia, and other chronic conditions.
The purpose of this position is to provide support to the ARIC ancillary brain imaging study (MRI & PET scans). This support will include recruitment, administrative work and accompanying participants on imaging visits. The part-time (20 hours per week) position is funded through December 2024, and may be renewable depending on study needs.
Work Arrangements: The work will be conducted in-person during the weekdays (Monday-Friday) at the West Bank Office Building (WBOB), Division of Epidemiology and Community Health located at 1300 South 2nd Street, Minneapolis, MN and at the Center for Magnetic Resonance Research (CMRR), located on the Minneapolis campus of the University of Minnesota at 2021 6th St SE, Minneapolis, MN. The position will report to Anne Gerlach, ARIC Study Project Manager.

Compensation:
Starting Pay Range: $21.64 - $25.00/hour dependent upon the selected candidate's relevant qualifications, experience, and internal equity.
Position Responsibilities:
50% Recruitment - ARIC Brain Imaging Study (MRI and PET scans)

  • Assemble and mail recruitment letters to eligible participants.
  • Interview participants to determine eligibility for MRI and PET scans.
  • Assist with requesting participant medical records if/when needed to obtain MRI approval prior to scheduling.
  • Assist with scheduling participants for MRI and PET scans.
  • Make appointment reminder calls and follow up calls after visit as needed.
  • Assist with arranging transportation for participants to/from the Center for Magnetic Resonance Research (CMRR).

35% Accompany Participants on Brain Imaging Visits

  • Assist with conducting Brain Imaging Visits:
    • Consent participants to take part in the imaging study.
    • Communicate with imaging technicians who will conduct the scans.

15% Administrative Support

  • Compile appointment reminder packets to mail to participants before their imaging appointment.
  • Compile MRI results from ARIC data repository to mail to participants after their imaging appointment.
  • Entry of data according to study protocol.
  • Other administrative duties as needed or requested.
Qualifications

Required:

  • BA/BS from a regionally accredited college or university strongly preferred. Combination of related education and experience equal to 4 years may be considered.
  • Great attention to detail and organization skills.
  • Fluency in English (listening, reading, writing, and speaking).
  • Ability to engage with study participants.
  • Comfort talking on the phone, as necessary for recruitment and scheduling.
  • Reliable transportation or ability to travel to/from WBOB and to the CMRR building.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and ability to learn data entry software.

Preferred:

  • Experience in face-to-face collection of research data.
  • Experience adhering to rigid protocol standards.
  • Experience working with older adults (70+ years old) or individuals with various medical conditions.
  • Hardworking, able to take initiative to solve problems, and willing to fulfill varied study tasks as they arise.
  • Experience working as part of a team.
  • Must be able to provide at least 3 references. Must provide resume.

Epidemiology and Community Health:

The Division of Epidemiology & Community Health focuses on disease and health in various populations. Our faculty and students examine the distribution, cause and prevention of diseases, and how human behavior affects overall health.
