Under general supervision of the Parks Foreman, performs semi/ skilled manual labor maintaining City parks, cemeteries, open spaces, and recreation facilities. Duties are performed with independence; work is reviewed in- progress and upon completion. Performs other work as required.

- Assists with maintaining parks, greenways, streetscapes/ medians, cemetery, athletic fields, and other City designated properties.
- Park related maintenance includes but not limited to:
- care of plant materials,
- maintenance of park infrastructure,
- landscape projects,
- irrigation,
- athletic fields,
- various equipment operations,
- minor construction projects,
- litter control,
- weed eradication,
- shelter and restroom cleaning,
- snow removal, and
- sidewalk sweeping
- Each task uses best management practices and general park standards.
- Operates commercial mowers, pickup trucks with trailers, snow removal machinery, and various small landscape power tools.
- Performs routine and preventative maintenance of operating equipment, playground apparatus and park amenities.
- May assist / perform duties associated with opening and closing of burials and assigned general maintenance, at the city Cemetery supported by other parks staff and supervisor.
- Performs general maintenance to landscape bed areas throughout the City.
- Assists with special events as scheduled.
- Performs entry-level preventative maintenance on irrigation system as directed.
- Prunes trees and shrubs to maintain the health of the landscape and urban forestry, as trained by Forestry personnel.
- Removes snow from sidewalks, stairs, and parking lots as assigned
- This position may be required to work weekends and evenings for special events.
- This position will also be required to work early mornings, evenings, and weekends for snow removal during the winter months.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Completion of a high school diploma or GED and
- 6 months to 1 year of experience in Parks Maintenance or landscaping required.
- May include seasonal work experience as part of the requirement.
- Equivalent combination of acceptable training, education, and experience may be considered.
- Must be 18 years old to apply.
Must possess a State of Colorado Driver's License with a good driving record for the previous three years.
- Knowledge in the maintenance of park amenities, athletic fields, and general park property.
- Skill in the safe operation of equipment in rough, uneven, or slippery ground conditions
- Ability to understand oral and written instructions.
- Ability to work independently, without direct supervision and in a team environment.
- Ability to perform strenuous work in a variety of outdoor weather conditions
- Ability to communicate effectively both oral and in writing with a wide variety of individuals including the general public, contractors, volunteers, City staff, and others using the City parks and public spaces.
The employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk; use fingers, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and read and speak and hear.
The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near Parks Maintenance equipment and moving mechanical parts. The work is performed in outside weather conditions. The employee is frequently exposed to equipment vibration, fumes, airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals. The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to risk of electrical shock, and sharp objects. The noise level in the work environment is at times loud.
