Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit:

The UNC Chapel Hill Department of Transportation and Parking is an essential part of UNC Chapel Hill and is responsible for coordinating all traffic, Parking and transportation services for UNC Chapel Hill’s campus. The department strives to provide a high level of service to students, employees and visitors who work, live, and visit the University and UNC Health Care System. Transportation & Parking (T&P), partners with stakeholders and customers to manage this key University infrastructure system effectively and efficiently balancing limited resources and the diverse needs of the campus community. The department manages 10 parking decks and 160 surface parking areas with approximately 23,000 parking spaces providing employee, student, patient/visitor, and event access to the UNC campus. The University and UNC HealthCare System rely on a multi-modal transportation system that is heavily dependent upon local and regional transportation to provide access to the campus and hospitals. UNC partners with local and regional transit agencies to provide fare free at boarding local transit and subsidized regional transit opportunities for employees and students. T&P services and partners include Chapel Hill Transit, Triangle Transit Authority, Piedmont Area Rapid Transit, and Chatham Transit Network in addition to the UNC P2P Express and P2P On-Demand services. T&P also offers a UNC Commuter Alternative Program(CAP) that incentivizes commuting opportunities including off-campus park & ride with frequent transit, Zip Ride (car rental by the hour), Zim Ride (ride sharing service), and van pool subsidy and coordination. T&P plans, manages, and implements traffic, transit, and parking services on a daily basis and during major campus events such as large-scale athletic events, performing arts, Commencement, and VIP visits occurring at UNC.

Position Summary:

The primary purpose of this position is to provide Parking and transportation services to support campus commuting through Parking and alternatives to parking such as transit, biking, and walking to get to and around campus. The TDM Program Coordinator is responsible for assisting with outreach efforts to promote the university’s transportation services and alternative transportation programs. The position will coordinate and assist with distributing marketing and communication related to Parking and alternative transportation options and that affect access and travel around the UNC campus.
This position will perform all duties in the parking services area including operating cash drawers, completing deposits, assisting customers in-person and by email/phone depending on the need. This position will provide transportation and parking information and support the Commuter Alternative Program (CAP) by attending campus events with the Transportation Planner. This position will assist in promoting the Commuter Alternative Program (CAP), which promotes alternatives to driving alone: transit, ridesharing, biking, and walking. This position will support these programs through advertising, outreach, and customer service. The Transportation Demand Coordinator is responsible for assisting with the customer service and information sharing related to mobility services, and coordination among various service types, including micro-mobility devices such as e-bikes and other Transportation Demand Management (TDM) options. This position will develop and design communication materials to provide directly to the campus community. This position will develop digital and hangtag permit designs for review and submittal.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

High school diploma or equivalency and one year of related office experience; or equivalent combination of training and experience.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills required; ability to communicate information orally or written clearly and concisely or in writing to individuals or groups.

Computer literacy required, including proficiency Office Suite/Office 365, particularly Word and Excel, Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop
Excellent organizational skills and attention to details required.
Must be able to work independently, use initiative, and make substantive decisions quickly and within policy.
Ability to work in a fast paced, busy environment with diverse populations.
Assist with developing and sending emails for messaging transportation and parking information updates to parking coordinators and permit holders including disruptions to normal service related to construction, events, and projects.
Participate in campus outreach events to provide information related to Parking and transportation options available to the campus community.
Design ads, brochures, flyers, and parking permits and/or other marketing materials.
Approve Zipcar applications.
Post to the CAP social media platforms.

Special Physical/Mental Requirements :

Ability to sit for extended periods of time and perform repetitive tasks and setup tables for customer service events (e.g., answering the telephone, typing, computer work)
