Normal Work Schedule: Sunday - Saturday 7:00am to 3:00pm, 3:00pm to 11:00pm, 11:00pm to 7:00am; shifts may vary
Job Summary: The Registered Nurse (RN) provides professional nursing care to patients. The RN reviews physicians' orders for accuracy and authorization prior to implementing them; prescribes and initiates nursing treatment through direct, assisted or delegation to other staff.
Additional Department Summary: The Registered Nurse provides nursing care to meet resident’s needs. Assists in the training and maintenance of residents' ability to recognize and identify their medications as their own. Delegates and supervises the care provided by resident aides. Coordinates and conducts activities of daily living. Documents and contributes to health status assessments and care plans. Administers medications. Obtains specimens as needed. Performs skilled treatments and procedures.
Required Minimum Qualifications: State of Alabama valid/current Registered Nurse License.
Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Final candidates who are not current University of Alabama employees must submit to and successfully pass a post-offer drug screen. Must successfully complete health screening after offer of employment has been made.
Skills and Knowledge: Knowledge of the Alabama Department of Public Health Rules & Regulations for Assisted Living and Specialty Care Assisted Living. Knowledge of Deta Care and Dementia in the elderly. Knowledge of The Deta Brain Series, The Pharmacological Management of Dementia, and The Dementia Assessment Series provided by the Dementia Education and Training Act Program, or equivalent training approved by the State Health Officer. CPR, glucose monitoring, injection administration, vital signs assessment, respiratory auscultation, suture removal, proficiency in completing physical and cognitive assessments.
Ability to read and comprehend physician orders and regulations. Ability to write clearly and concisely, using correct grammatical rules. Ability to communicate with diverse groups and communicate in a courteous, friendly manner.
Preferred Qualifications: Two (2) years of experience working as a Registered Nurse including experience and awareness of the needs of Geriatric Residents. Knowledge and recognition of the medical challenges and health needs of the geriatric population.
