Minimum Qualifications There are no education or experience requirements. Applicants must be physically able to perform medium to heavy physical labor. When required to operate motor vehicles, candidates must possess a valid driver's license appropriate for the type of vehicle to be operated. Applicants must also be able to communicate effectively with other staff and with park patrons.
Duties Description The incumbent will work under the direct supervision of the Park Manager or their designee at Midway State Park. The incumbent will perform or assist with routine maintenance and grounds work which will include, but is not limited to:• Provide assistance to Trade Generalists/Specialist in a variety of areas including mechanical, electrical, and masonry work. • Perform routine maintenance on a variety of mechanical equipment including mowers, amusement rides, tractors and chainsaws.• Remove trash and other obstructions from buildings and surrounding areas.• Assist with special event and program setup.• Perform grounds duties including mowing, trimming, tree maintenance, pond maintenance, plowing, snow, and ice removal.• Provide support to the cleaning staff as needed.• Assist in the completion of assigned reports, including Risk Tree Assessment and playground inspections, and maintain Safety Data Sheets binders.• Interact with park patrons, and provide information/support as appropriate.• May supervise a small crew of seasonal staff.
Additional Comments OPERATING NEEDS:• Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license that allows the candidate to legally operate a motor vehicle in New York State as a term and condition of employment.• Must be available to work a variable schedule that will include holidays, evening shifts, and/or weekends.• Must possess Game of Logging 1 and 2 certifications and Risk Tree Assessment or obtain them during the probationary period as a term and condition of employment.• Must possess NYS Parks tractor, chipper, and stump grinder training or be able to obtain such trainings within the probationary period as a term and condition of employment.• Must be reliable, flexible, and willing to work in a team setting. • Must be able to communicate effectively with other staff and park patrons in a responsible and courteous manner under stressful conditions.
