Minimum Qualifications One year of experience in the operation and / or maintenance of a park, historic site, Golf Course, or recreational facility. In addition to operations and maintenance, the following types of experience are also qualifying: law enforcement or security, firefighting, environmental education, environmental stewardship, natural resource management, forest management, wildlife management or preservation, or historic preservation or interpretation; OROne year of military service in any of the military branches; ORAn Associate’s or higher-level degree, or 60 credit hours of college level coursework; OR Completion of an appropriate two-year technical / trades school program or two years' experience as a trades assistant under the supervision of a skilled tradesperson.
Duties Description Under the direction of the Golf Course Superintendent, the incumbent will perform a variety of tasks relating to the operation, administration, and promotion of James BairdGolf Course including:• Presenting a professional and positive image of the Golf Course while promoting and managing golf pro shop-related activities.• Checking in with patrons to ensure they have an exceptional golfing experience.• Maintaining responsibility for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of golf pro shop operations.• Supervising the day-to-day personnel function of cashiers, starters, and golf cart staff.• Supervising and performing the collection of greens fees, cart fees, and merchandise and service fees using the point-of-sale system.• Consulting with the Golf Course Superintendent to communicate course conditions to the Golf Course visitors.• Administering, interpreting, and enforcing all course rules and policies that govern the use of the Golf Course and golf carts.• Assisting management with golf tournaments and designing daily golf schedules.• Conducting age- and skill-appropriate golf clinics for all skill levels with the focus on beginner golfers.• Performing general maintenance of the park and Golf Course.• Acting independently with minimal direct supervision.OPERATIONAL NEEDS:• Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license that allows the candidate to legally operate a motor vehicle in New York State as a term and condition of employment.• Must be able to perform medium to heavy physical labor.• Must be available to work weekends and holidays as needed.• Must be able to operate a variety of power-driven mechanical equipment including trucks, bucket trucks, tractors, mowers, line trimmers, and power saws.• Must participate in and complete training programs as instructed.• Must be able to communicate effectively with other staff and with park patrons.• Must have the ability to read and comprehend written material. • Must have the ability to supervise others.
