Description
Under supervision, to provide a variety of visitor services support activities in support of daily park operations, public access, and programs.
The Park Services Attendant position exists in a variety of park units across the County, including campground parks, day-use parks, and lake parks. There is currently one opening at Field Sports Park firing range however, the list created from this recruitment may be used for future openings.

EXAMINATION DATES: Candidates who meet the employment standards will be invited to take an online written examination tentatively scheduled for the week of April 1st, 2024. Qualifying candidates will be notified with examination instructions.
Typical Tasks
  • Computes and collects appropriate vehicle entry, camping, use permit, special event, and other related fees;
  • Registers campers and picnic users, sells and completes reservations, and checks permits for special events;
  • Assists with opening and closing gates, ensuring no lock-ins, and providing traffic control preparation and monitoring;
  • Performs administrative tasks, including completing weekly cash summaries, verifying and depositing receipts, recording accounts receivables, and preparing reports related to monies collected;
  • Provides information and directions to the public and responds appropriately to complaints and questions;
  • Operates and maintains specialized equipment related to the public use of park facilities (i.e., trap and skeet machines, targets, etc.);
  • Contacts Park personnel and County Communications using two-way radios and cell phones;
  • Cleans and restocks restrooms, picks up and removes litter, empties garbage cans, and changes trash liners in the general work location;
  • Maintains security of computers, cell phones, radios, cash, materials, and supplies;
  • May occasionally provide assistance with watering, weeding, maintaining vegetation, removing non-native plant species, and planting trees, plants, and seedlings;
  • May assist in preparing materials, collecting information, greeting participants, setting up displays, and distributing various materials;
  • Conducts compliance checks and reports unlawful conduct to Park Rangers or other proper authorities;
  • Sells tickets, annual passes, firewood, and other related items and supplies;
  • May perform recreational equipment inspections to ensure proper access and safe operations, including but not limited to prechecking for valid registration, vessel inspections, and prechecking spark arrestors;
  • May provide basic instructions to temporary employees and volunteers;
  • May perform basic first aid and assist with emergencies;
  • May be assigned as a Disaster Service Worker, as required;
  • Performs other related duties, as required.

Employment Standards
Sufficient education, training, and experience to demonstrate the possession and direct application of the following knowledge and abilities.
Training and Experience Note: The required knowledge, skills, and abilities are attained through training and experience equivalent to a high school diploma.
and
Six (6) months of full-time experience providing customer service and/or fee collection operations that included heavy public contact.
Special Requirements
  • If driving, possession of a valid California driver's license prior to appointment and the ability to qualify for and maintain a County driver authorization.
  • Possession of a Standard First Aid and CPR Certificate issued by the American Red Cross before completion of the probationary period.
  • May be required to obtain Level One Watercraft Inspection Training.

Knowledge of:
  • Principles and practices of customer service and public relations;
  • Basic mathematics to perform simple calculations;
  • Computer applications, such as word processing, spreadsheets, and databases.

Ability to:
  • Provide quality service to internal and external customers;
  • Follow and understand oral and written instructions;
  • Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing;
  • Effectively interpret and explain rules and regulations governing parks facilities and programs;
  • Deal tactfully and courteously with a culturally diverse visitor population;
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work at all levels;
  • Perform simple landscaping duties and safely operate and maintain small tools;
  • Utilize specialized departmental computer programs.

Physical Requirements
  • Climb, kneel, reach, stand, walk, push, pull, lift, and grasp;
  • Lift, push, and pull up to forty (40) pounds;
  • Work outside in variable temperatures and weather conditions;
  • Must be able to work weekends, holidays, and other irregular hours;
  • Must conform to departmental uniform standards.

Benefit and Retirement information may vary from bargaining unit to bargaining unit. Due to changes in State Law, current pension provisions described in the union contracts are not automatically applied.
