What is a Seasonal Park Ranger Assistant?
We recruit for Seasonal Park Ranger Assistant positions each year. These positions generally work during our busiest time of year, Memorial Day through Labor Day, when visitors flock to enjoy our beautiful parks. However, each park is unique and the duration of seasonal positions varies slightly from park to park.
This recruitment announcement will be used to fill a seasonal interpretive Park Ranger Assistant position for Wallowa Lake Management Unit at

What you will do:
In this position you will lead interpretive and education programs for park visitors. Assist year-round staff in the protection, cleaning, maintenance, operation, and repair of state park lands, natural and cultural resources, structures, facilities, equipment, and systems.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Six (6) months of experience (paid or unpaid) performing public contact or customer service duties (e.g. Teacher, Customer Service Representative, Salesperson, Receptionist, etc.) and/or maintenance experience (construction trades, landscaping, custodial, etc.);
OR
  • Six (6) months of college in any discipline (24 quarter hours/16 semester hours)
Special Requirements:
  • To be hired, you must have a criminal records and driving records check that meets OPRD Criteria at the time of hire, and throughout employment.
  • You must have a valid driver’s license at the time of hire and throughout employment

  • Ability to use computerized registration equipment and programs.
  • Ability to make change and prepare simple cash reconciliation reports.
  • Experience using tools, material and equipment associated with landscape and building maintenance.
  • Experience assisting with the performance of basic plumbing, carpentry, painting, grounds keeping tasks.
  • Experience in promoting a culturally competent and diverse work environment.

  • The salary listed is at the non-PERS rate. Public Employee Retirement System (PERS) eligible employees will have their base salary increased by 6.95% and pay the 6% employee contribution to PERS.
