What is a Seasonal Park Ranger Assistant?
We recruit for Seasonal Park Ranger Assistantpositions each year. These positions generally work during our busiest time of year, April through September, when visitors flock to enjoy our beautiful parks. However, each park is unique and the duration of seasonal positions varies slightly from park to park.

What you will do:
As a Seasonal Park Ranger Assistant you will assist year-round State Park staff in the protection, maintenance, operation and repair of state park lands, natural and cultural resources, structures, facilities, equipment and systems. In this role, you will perform a variety of park operational tasks such as: janitorial work, landscape maintenance, safety, and visitor services. Some work may require the most elementary skills in: building trades, including carpentry, electrical, plumbing, painting and landscape maintenance.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Six (6) months of experience (paid or unpaid) performing public contact or customer service duties (e.g. Teacher, Customer Service Representative, Salesperson, Receptionist, etc.) and/or maintenance experience (construction trades, landscaping, custodial, etc.);

OR
  • Six (6) months of college in any discipline (24 quarter hours/16 semester hours); list hours under Education/Training History of the PD34 application.

Special Requirements:
  • To be hired, you must have a criminal records and driving records check that meets OPRD Criteria at the time of hire, and throughout employment.
  • You must have a valid driver's license at the time of hire and throughout employment

  • Experience handling cash, making change and preparing simple cash reconciliation reports.
  • Experience or desire to learn the safe use of tools, material, and/or equipment associated with landscape and/or building maintenance.
  • Experience performing custodial duties including cleaning restroom facilities.
  • Experience in promoting a culturally competent and diverse work environment.

  • The salary listed is at the non-PERS rate. Public Employee Retirement System (PERS) eligible employees will have their base salary increased by 6.95% and pay the 6.95% employee contribution to PERS.
