Summary: The Parent-Infant/Toddler Educator serves the Saint Xavier University Illinois Board of Education Prevention Initiative Birth to Three grant funded program, providing home visits, parent-child group activities, parent workshops and field trips that consistently affirms the Baby TALK curriculum standards and Illinois State Board of Education Compliance. Under the direction of the program director, the Birth to Three Program Parent -Infant Educator serves qualifying families with children birth to age 3 and prenatal mothers in home-based programming to provide strengths-based support, resources, and advocacy in accordance with state and program guidelines.
The Parent Infant/Educator collaborates with staff and community partners to provide comprehensive services, assists in the planning and implementation of family events/parent meetings, and assists in the recruitment and registration process. The Parent-Infant/Toddler Educator must be able to establish trust and build confidence with families, listen empathetically, demonstrate cultural sensitivity and commitment to supporting at-risk families and children and lend effective support where appropriate. The Parent-Infant/Toddler Educator supports the Education Department in its outreach and effectiveness as a steward of the mission and works of the Education Department, which includes embracing Saint Xavier University's mission and core values.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Provide home-based services on a regular basis and support families in group and community encounters with the primary goal of strengthening parent-child interactions and facilitate action steps toward using the Baby TALK curriculum model.
  • Conduct biweekly visits and submit weekly schedules.
  • Assist in recruiting eligible families for the program and engage families to maintain a caseload of up to 20-24 children/pregnant mothers.
  • Collaborate with the team to plan and facilitate monthly parent and child activities.
  • Work jointly with parents to obtain the necessary documentation needed to complete intake and other program requirements.
  • Provide support, education, and information on relevant topics to include child development and family education.
  • Establish meaningful working relationships with parents/family members in the home and community setting and become acquainted with diverse family structures and cultures.
  • Maintain confidentiality on all family and child information.
  • Form a collaboration with parents to develop visit and activity plans based on each child's assessment and identified family needs.
  • Establish and maintain community partnerships and refer families to resources as needed.
  • Ensure accurate and timely entry of all required documentation into database system.
  • Prepare and submit appropriate documentation and reports, maintain client records in accordance with professional standards and funder requirements.
  • Maintains ongoing communication with supervisor and agency staff, attends regularly scheduled staff reflective practice meetings and reflective supervision.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development training and staff development provided by director, other consultants, workshops and conferences.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in education, early childhood, social work, nursing, counseling, human services and/or experience working with young children and their families providing early childhood direct services for a minimum of two years.
  • Must be able to demonstrate strong communication, writing, record-keeping and computer skills.
  • Must be certified in Baby TALK curriculum or available to complete the required trainings upon hire.
  • Requires local travel and some evening hours.
  • Must have reliable and efficient transportation to transport oneself to and from home visits.
  • Description of Hours: 7.5 hour day with flexibility for some evenings 12 month position
