Form of workOverall Purpose To provide support to the instructional program within assigned classroom with specificresponsibility for assisting in the supervision, care and instruction of special needs students in the regular classroom; assisting in implementing plans for instruction; monitoring student behavior during non - classroom time; providing information to appropriate school personnel; and attending IEP meetings. Essential FunctionsImplements under the supervision of assigned teacher, behavioral plans designed by IEP team for students with behavior disorders or other special conditions for the purpose of presenting and/or reinforcing learning concepts.Administers immediate first aid and medical assistance as instructed by a health care professional (e.g. tube feeding, medication, etc.) for the purpose of meeting immediate health care needs.
Administers classroom assignments, test, homework assignments, make-up work, etc. for the purpose of supporting teachers in the instructional process.Assists students, individual or in small groups, with lesson assignments (e.g. read stories, listen to students read, providing writing assistance, reinforce English lessons, provide spelling practice, facilitate activities, social skills, daily living skills, etc.) for the purpose of practicing and/or reinforcing learning concepts; implementing IEP plans; and ensuring students success in school.Monitors individual and/or groups of students in a variety of settings (e.g.
classroom, playground, field trips, library, lunchroom, car and/or bus loading/unloading, etc.), and responds to emergency and non-emergency situations for the purpose of providing a safe and positive learning environment. Maintains confidentiality of students and other professional information.Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit. RequirementsHigh School Diploma or GED Certificate required.60 Semester hours of college credit from an accredited educational institution ora passing score on the GACE Paraprofessional Assessment required.Successful experience in job related area preferred.
Physical RequirementsOccasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity.Generally the job requires 20% sitting, 40% walking, and 40% standing.
