Job Summary:
Under limited supervision, provides legal support and general administrative support in the Office of Legal Affairs.
Job Duties:
- Assists attorney(s) in litigation support, including the preparation of depositions, testimony, and assists with the preparation of pleadings and hearings.
- Researches and analyzes statutes, recorded judicial decisions, and legal articles to prepare legal documents, presentations, or educational material for review, approval and use by attorney.
- Assists with answering Office of Legal Affairs phones and directing inquiries on behalf of the office and as representative to the Institution.
- Maintains logs and manages assignments of work and requested/pending/completed contracts or other legal requests for entire Office of Legal Affairs, as needed. Assists with Office of Legal Affairs file management, both electronic and hard copy.
- Interacts with all schools and departments within the Institution, The University of Texas System and Office of General Counsel, The Office of the Attorney General of the State of Texas, and other agencies.
- Conducts fact investigation and interviews and analyzes documentary evidence.
- May train, supervise or direct the work of team members.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
Education:
Some completed education such as an associates degree or training program leading to a certificate in the field of legal administration, legal or paralegal studies.
Experience:
Three (3) years or more of paralegal experience is required.
Preferred:
- Bachelor's preferred.
- Experience in healthcare preferred.
- Experience with governmental entity preferred.
Additional Licenses and Certifications:
A paralegal certification can be used in lieu of education requirements.
