Erise IP, a mid-sized law firm, is on a mission to find an entry level Paralegal Assistant to join our growing, collaborative team. This position is located in Overland Park, Kansas and will be an in-person position initially, with the potential of hybrid once someone is trained and comfortable.
We don't require a significant amount of previous experience - but we are looking for a can-do person with a positive attitude to assist our Paralegals with their day-to-day work. About the Position
This position has overall responsibility to support our Paralegals and Attorneys. Ours is a collaborative team, and we're looking for someone who is excited about digging in, rolling up their sleeves, and getting the work done. The responsibilities are what a successful candidate makes of them, but we'd expect the following responsibilities:
- Assisting our very busy Paralegals with various tasks such as drafting, proofing, court filings and acting as backup in the event someone is out of office.
- Acting as the backup for e-discovery requests.
- Assisting during very busy trial preparation.
- Updating and maintaining client files.
- Proofing and quality checks on drafted documentation.
- Assisting clients and Firm personnel when Paralegals and Attorneys are unavailable.
- Performing administrative tasks which could include correspondence, managing schedules, scheduling meetings, and scheduling travel and client appointments.
- Other duties and projects as assigned.
The Skills You'll Need
- A minimum of a high school diploma with 2 or more years of relevant work experience.
- Experience in intellectual property is strongly preferred, but not required.
- Paralegal Certificate is preferred.
- Very strong attention to detail required.
- Strong computer and technology proficiency, with an understanding of legal terminology, spelling, grammar and accurate and speedy typing skills.
- Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong collaborative, and consensus-building ability to work closely and successfully with attorneys, managers, staff, and often more importantly, our clients.
- Able to quickly develop rapport and gain respect and trust across the Firm, coordinating simultaneous projects timely, with minimal supervision and maximum flexibility.
- Effective project management and planning abilities, including demonstrated ability to multi-task, prioritize, analyze, organize, attend to detail, and follow through. A can-do attitude would definitely set you apart from other candidates.
- And a level of professionalism, integrity and honesty in all aspects of the role. It wouldn't hurt to have a sense of humor too.
