Summary
Utilizes and implements acquired skill and knowledge through training and experience to paint steel, aluminum, and parts to satisfy the needs of the tractor trailer industry.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform and abide by safety policies and procedures while performing tasks and other related assignments
- Review specification documentation and information related to assignments to ensure products are manufactured to customer specifications and MAC quality standards
- Dispose of hazardous waste according to company policy and communicated regulation training
- Select paint according to company requirements and match colors of paint according to specified color charts
- Pour paint into spray guns and adjust nozzles and paint mixes for proper paint flow and coating thickness
- Monitor painting operations to identify flaws, such as blisters or streaks, and correct their causes
- Disassemble, clean, and reassemble sprayers and power equipment using solvents, wire brushes, and cloths for cleaning duties
- Spray prepared surfaces with specified amounts of primers and decorative or finish coatings
- Safely utilize basic hand and power tools including air drill and grinder
- Communicate issues of concern and any other pertinent information that affects the productive completion of quality product to supervisor
- Clean work areas during and at the end of the shift
- Organize and restock needed parts and materials
- Assist other employees as needed and instructed
- Any other duties assigned

- Ability to work any shift based on production need

- Mechanical proficiency
- Familiarity with and willingness to safely utilize basic hand and power tools (such as air drills, grinders, etc.)
- Ability to comprehend and interpret detailed drawings and measurements
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos
- Ability to write simple correspondence
- Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization
- Basic math skills
- Critical thinking skills to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems
- Oral comprehension and expression skills to listen to and understand information and ideas presented verbally and then effectively communicate the information and ideas verbally
- Ability to concentrate on a task over a period of time without being distracted
- Ability to communicate, abide by, verify, and logically respond to safety policies, procedures, and concerns
Position Tiers:
- Tier 1: Employees in this tier are new to the position. Employee is under direct supervision as they learn the skills and duties of the position.
- Tier 2: Employees in this position have developed the skills required to perform the job. There is supervisor involvement checking completed work for quality.
- Tier 3: Employees in this position have mastered the skills required to perform the job. The individual does not need direct supervision and is responsible for training new employees in the department.
Education and/or Experience
- Experience with and knowledge of paint spray guns and how they work is preferred
- Experience or knowledge in tractor trailer building is preferred
- Experience in a manufacturing-related field is preferred
Physical Demands
- Ability to see details at close range while reviewing inventory information
- Ability to lift 50 pounds
- Ability to grasp and manipulate large and small items
- Ability to read, interpret, and comprehend detailed drawings, specifications, measurements, and safety policies and procedures
- Ability to push, pull, and lift various materials including aluminum, steel, and parts
- Ability to maneuver self in order to view safe operation of load and obstructions of material and/or pedestrians
- Ability to physically inspect own work and perform work in various positions and heights
- Ability to keep your hand and arm steady while moving your arm or while holding your arm and hand in one position
- Ability to successfully maneuver, lift, climb, bend, kneel, and stoop
- Ability to work in a Plant/ Manufacturing environment
