The company has won multiple Emmy and VES awards for its work. Recent projects include WandaVision and Hawkeye, Wonder Woman 1984, The Mandalorian, and many more.
The Third Floor is looking for an enthusiastic Paint Lead who not only can create beautiful background paintings, but also lead a team in creating paintings that seamlessly infuse our 3d and 2d worlds together. The ideal candidate would be able to take creative direction from both the director and art directors of the film, while also working with other departments to not only break down what is needed, but also to help solve technical issues that would come up. The candidate would also help in implementing creative solutions that would optimize the workload that is needed, and work with our outsourcing partners to streamline the process.
Full Time. Remote Position. Must be in the state of California, Georgia, Texas, Oregon, Connecticut, Florida, New Jersey, New York (Outside NYC), Colorado, Washington, or Canada for remote positions.
Responsibilities:
- Create midground and background paintings for the film
- Lead a team of artists in creating images that are consistent with the style of the film using drawovers, reference images, and verbal communication over zoom or other available programs.
- Work with assets, previs, comp, and lighting department heads.
- Work with production to track the work that is involved and give feedback to artists as needed.
- Help production and pipeline in creating workflows and processes that make it easier for other artists to create images.
Essential Skills:
- Knowledge of photoshop or other 2d painting software
- Good understanding of creating images based on lighting within the scene or shot
- Experience in lighting and comping
- Familiarity with Shotgrid or other tracking software
- Prior experience in leading a team of matte painters
- Prior experience as a matte painter or Paint Lead in a VFX or animated feature
- General Basic Knowledge of 3D programs is a big plus

- Works well under pressure and open to feedback and changes from department heads
- Good communicative/collaborative skills.
The pay scale is between $30 - $70 / hour based on experience, skillset and other factors. We work an average of 5 hours of paid overtime a week. Additional TTF benefits: Health Insurance (Medical, Dental, Vision), Sick Time, 401k (staff only), PTO (staff only), and additional Perks & Benefits.
