This is a paid intern position with the Shelby County Highway Department. The applicant must be a current college student majoring Engineering, preferably Civil. This position will assist engineering and inspection staff across our Highway, Bridge, and Land Development groups with tasks related to the design, construction, inspection, and maintenance of Shelby County's transportation network.
- Assists with construction inspection of highway paving & striping, bridge construction, access improvements, and construction of residential subdivisions.
- Assists with preparing quantities and pay estimates.
- Assists with review of construction plans for subdivisions and proposed developments.
- Assists with pre-construction research, design, and computer aided drafting for construction and repair projects.
- Assists with data collection, field work and surveying for project development.
- Participates in plan reviews and meetings.
- Performs research related to right-of-way, storm drainage and flood data, traffic studies, and other highway data.
- Creates and maintains spreadsheets, reports and databases and ensures accuracy.
- Performs all duties in a safe and efficient manner.
- Performs other duties as assigned by supervision.
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Must be a current undergraduate or graduate college student majoring in Engineering.
- Valid Driver's License
- Must be at least 16 years of age
- The successful candidate will be detail oriented, able to follow directions, and a self-starter.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Work is primarily light in nature and consists of sitting, walking, standing, bending and carrying.EXAMINATIONS
