Position Summary
This position is responsible for supporting the client’s business unit(s) with the simulation of various packaging solutions to support a portfolio of electromechanical consumer and enterprise products.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Assess the client’s current portfolio of packaging solutions and work with packaging and product R&D and manufacturing teams to generate Packaging Simulations based on finite element analysis (FEA) models
- Assess new materials and their mechanical characteristics in FEA models
- Import or create a part/assembly geometry into an FEA model
- Create and use scripts to increase automation in FEA workflows
- Anticipate packaging material needs from a cost, policy and/or regulatory compliance consideration
- Collaborate with a wide range of internal and external partners, including R&D teams, manufacturing/OEM teams, quality and reliability teams, compliance and sustainability teams and marketing/UX teams
- Collaborate with packaging design engineers to assess test data from packaging part/assembly proto and production builds
- Perform other duties as needed
Education and Credential Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Mechanics, Materials Science and Engineering, or related field
- Eligible to work in the US without RLA sponsorship for employment visa status
Experience Requirements
- 3+ years of experience in a Packaging Simulation role
- Use of FEA (Finite Element Analysis) software, such as ANSYS, ABAQUS, or similar tools
- Use of various CAD packages to create or import a geometry into FEA models
- Use of pre-processing tools like Hypermesh for mesh generation
- Use of post-processing techniques to analyze simulation results and generate reports
- Experience working with various packaging materials and understanding their mechanical behavior
- Experience working in R&D/proto/manufacturing environments and understanding packaging design principles and testing methods in those environments
- Experience with scripting or programming languages (e.g., Python) for automating tasks within FEA workflows preferred
- Experience working with packaging related regulations/standards such as ISTA, Amazon SIOC for transportation testing, etc. preferred
- Experience working with cloud based FEA platforms preferred
Skills Requirements
- Ability to read, write, and speak English proficiently
- High proficiency using productivity software such as M365 (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, Teams and SharePoint)
- Ability to use agile/scrum project/program management principles and methodologies to consistently meet task deadlines, triage changing priorities, and track issues to resolution
- Ability to collaborate across diverse teams with a customer service mindset
