The Packaging Procurement Manager is responsible for managing all aspects of the packaging function for North American plants. Includes sourcing, contracting and overseeing plant purchases, as well as providing technical expertise to our facilities.
Essential Functions:
- Source and manage packaging vendors which meet the cost, quality and customer service requirements of the business.
- Contract larger volume packaging items for all North American facilities
- Oversee plant purchases of small and medium volume packaging items
- Provides technical expertise and support for inter-departmental groups including; Production, R&D, Quality, Maintenance, Production, and International Operations.
- Develop packaging options for packages and/or machinery for the Sales Department for costing and manufacturing location options.
- Insure that current and new packaging items meet National Motor Freight Classification regulations as well as FDA regulations.
- Conduct feasibility testing as well as qualification and validation testing of all existing and new packaging items.
- Insure that the vendors and packaging materials meet the sustainability goals of the company.
- Perform other duties or special projects as needed.
Required Knowledge and Experience:
- Requires a minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Purchasing, Packaging Engineering or related discipline.
- Minimum of three years' experience in Packaging Procurement or engineering preferably in the food and beverage industry. Dry granular or powder packaging experience preferred using multiwall shipping sacks, thermal transfer labeling, laminated film rollstock for VFFS pouches, paper laminated rollstock for HFFS pouches, premade four-side seal pouches and poly bags, printed retail folding cartons, corrugated cases, supersacks, various liquid bulk containers up to 50 gallons and small glass and plastic bottles for spice blends and/or sauces for the retail market. Individual sauce pouches/cups for the foodservice market.
- Strong communication, interpersonal skills and general knowledge in Adobe applications, Microsoft Office, and Lotus Notes.
