SalaryUtz Quality Foods is looking to grow our loyal, career driven, and customer focused team and is currently recruiting for a Packaging Machine Operator to work from our manufacturing facility located in Fitchburg, MA on Second Shift.This position works Monday – Friday 3:25 PM – 11:55 PM.
As a Packaging Machine Operator, this candidate will be responsible for operating Packaging Machines as efficiently as possible in a team atmosphere. Provides assistance to Lineperson as needed.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepares and operates Packaging Machines and equipment include barrel fillers, printers, labelers, banding and sealing equipment and conveyors.
- Responsible for proper packaging line set up.
- Perform Daily Operator checklist at shift change and startup.
- Verifies proper operations and operating scales on Packaging Machines.
- Loads rolls of film on skid for product run and puts away at end of shift.
- Lifts fill rolls (up to 60 pounds) on to packing machine.
- Lifts formers (up to 40 pounds) on to Packaging Machine.
- Uses printers to ensure proper codes and prices are printed on bags, labels and cases.
- Uses proper former and adjusts temperature to have a proper seal on all packages.
- Selects correct program for Ishida scale and Atlas bag marker for scheduled SKUs.
- Programs, troubleshoots and makes adjustments on scale and bag marker to ensure consistent feed for good bag weights.
- Continuously monitors package for the following hourly: correct item weight, proper seal of package, bag integrity, proper code date and correct price. Records film usage data and calculates film waste percentage.
- Operates shaker system to ensure product delivery to correct machine.
- Operates and performs changeover to automatic case packing equipment.
- Uses Lock Out Tag Out as required to ensure safe operations at all times.
- Works harmoniously with others in a team atmosphere.
- Communicates to incoming shift Machine Operator any difficulties or improvements.
- Maintains efficient methods of operation on all lines.
- Reports any and all conditions that could lead to product contamination.
- Assists Maintenance Department in Packaging Machine repair when necessary.
- Responsible to assist in training new operators.
- Maintains an organized and sanitary work environment at all times.
- Performs daily and end of week sanitation as directed by supervision.
- Completes all bag percentage report and records end of day production. Checks scanning errors and corrects.
- Responsible for quality and food safety tasks for their position.

Requirements:- Requires basic reading, writing and math skills.
- Requires knowledge of all Packaging Machine equipment and machines used in the Packaging Department.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a tow motor operator's license.
- Able to lift a minimum 80 lbs.
- Basic computer skills to enter component usage.
- Requires team skills when working and communicating with others
