Overview:
The Packaging Designer will work cross functionally with Design, Sales, Marketing and Sourcing teams to create and develop innovate packaging solutions for various apparel items.
Key Accountabilities:
- Conduct market research to support trend finds and new concepts and propose how findings can be implemented into the current offering
- Suggest improvements for better efficiencies that support the print production process from start to finish and partner to implement those improvements
- Design and develop cost effective, innovative, and consumer friendly hang tags and structural designs
- Partner to identify packaging design, manufacturing, and materials needed to improve costs and productivity
- Work with Product Approval and Sourcing teams to review issues with vendor approvals, production changes, non-conforming packaging, and quality control processes
- Approve digital and physical submits from vendors inclusive of color, substrate quality, and finishes
- Review any issues with the packaging sample schedule to ensure deadlines are being met and propose possible solutions
- Partner to implement on-brand solutions for each project to help maintain brand integrity while supporting execution efficiencies where applicable across the total category
- Oversee the creation, updates, and maintenance of development tracking charts, packaging brief submits and quality standards library
- Review and communicate submit (sample & production) comments between the Packaging team and appropriate cross-functional teams
- Create, evaluate, and refine packaging die-lines while working cross-functionally with Design, Sales, Marketing, Product Approval, and Sourcing teams through the development and approval processes
- Work cross-functionally with design to prepare all packaging requests for licensor approvals
- Recommend needed improvements or enhancements to structural design to comply with customer and market expectations and demands
- Verify packaging specifications through packaging audits/reviews from in-house and outside vendors
- Meet all deadlines in adherenceto the season design calendar
- Special projects as assigned
Required Skills/Abilities/Education:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Packaging Design, Graphic Design, Illustration, Fine Arts or related field
- 5+ years of work experience in packaging design (children’s wear knowledge a plus)
- Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite, especially Adobe Illustrator/Photoshop as well as Microsoft Excel
- In-depth knowledge of layout, die-lines and overall packaging design
- Excellent organizational, communication and time management skills with excellent proof-reading skills with attention to detail
- Work independently, effectively and accurately in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
- Understanding of three-dimensional shape and form
- Portfolio showcasing relevant work
- Illustration skills a plus
