Job description

Qualifications:
Minimum of a high school diploma, at least eighteen years of age, and completed mandatory DDA training.

Scope of Work:
The Overnight Instructional Associate staff is responsible to the individuals in a specific residence to provide instructional support if needed during overnight hours, to observe regularly during overnight hours, to monitor individuals for health and safety concerns, and to assist with morning preparation for the day’s activities.


Responsibilities Include:


  • Communicate with the RIA and EIA regarding issues or relevant events to be aware of and alert to during overnight hours.

    • Review the program service log from the evening prior to the overnight shift.

    • Review any ABCs or incident reports for each person that are current and could impact sleep or comfort of individuals overnight .

    • Review medication log to ensure medication was given at correct times prior to overnight hours.

    • Complete one note prior to the end of overnight shift to describe sleep of individuals, any issues during the overnight period, and early morning routine.

    • Inform the EIA of any issues noticed during the morning routine including injuries, behavioral issues, eating of breakfast, lunch preparation or location of lunch for the day.

  • Inspect the house for safety including locking all doors, alarms turned on, stove and oven off, windows closed and locked, HVC thermostat set no more than 72 degrees in winter, and 74 in summer.

  • Monitor individuals regularly throughout the overnight hours, observe, determine any action that may be needed, and document every hour on the program service log.

  • Assist individuals if in need as specified in behavior support plan, i.e. redirect to bed, assist in bathroom, assist with getting into bed or changing sheets if soiled. Remain alert during overnight hours to be able to hear requests for assistance.

  • Provide instruction as needed to build independent skills for each individual to wake up at scheduled time, and prepare for the day i.e. shower, dressing, toothbrushing, packing backpack, etc.

  • Provide instruction for individuals to prepare their own breakfast using meal plan for options.

  • Administer medication for each individual if ordered during overnight hours.

  • Check the day’s schedule and ensure individuals dress for the activities they will engage in, i.e. appropriate for work site, good for hiking or sports, have swimming supplies if on schedule.

  • Attend all staff meetings and house meetings every two weeks.

  • Complete ABC or incident report for any incident that occurs during overnight hours.

  • Complete inspection of cleanliness and organization of common areas of the house and complete quiet household tasks to improve each area including dusting, wiping counters and sinks, mopping floors, cleaning bathrooms, wash soiled linens if any, cleaning refrigerator, wiping cabinets of crumbs, reorganizing pantry or kitchen cabinets, wiping marks off walls, etc.

  • Complete sanitizing checklist for common areas and staff office once per overnight period.

  • Comply with CSS policies and applicable regulations.

  • Other duties as assigned.


REQUIRED TRAINING/PROFESSIONAL CERTIFICATIONS

  • Must possess a High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Completion and demonstration of techniques taught in the MANDT, CPR & First Aid training's, other training's as required by CSS which are provided in orientation.
  • Successfully complete annual re-certification of the MANDT.
  • Recommended to have a valid driver’s license and a driving record free of any moving violations for the past two (2) years.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Employee must be able to effectively use non-adverse physical intervention strategies with individuals with autism of varying heights, weights and levels of physical strength according to the guidelines presented in MANDT training.

CSS is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit charitable organization which provides services and support to children and adults with autism and other developmental disabilities residing within Montgomery County, Maryland. CSS was founded in 1994 and began its mission by working collaboratively with individuals, families, and other lead agencies to design and implement new models of service. CSS provides residential services in 50 homes in upper Montgomery County, where two individuals reside in each home with one or two support staff providing care and supervision . Additionally, day support services including vocational training and education are provided in our main center, family homes, and in the local Montgomery County community.
