What to expect as a HCTC Planner for Telecommunications Plant
As an Outside Plant Planner, you play an important role in planning and preparing the drawings for the construction of new plant as well as revisions/removals of existing telecommunications plant. This includes all existing aerial and underground lines, cables and conduits. In addition to preparing detailed construction and installation drawings, you will be estimating equipment, labor and material costs for each stage of the project. Essential job functions are listed here:
-Ability to develop long-range plans for assigned Wire Centers and assess new technology for application within loop and interoffice applications.
-Proficient in both copper fed and FTTH applications.
-Prepares work orders for new Concentrator locations, subdivisions and other feeder capacity relief projects and supports Project Management.
-Prepares bids, reviews contracts and estimates construction costs.
-Performs field surveys to gather data, update staking sheets, maps and cable records in order to prepare variance reports and maintain accurate inventory.
-Responsible for easement procurement and serves as a Notary Public.
-Ability to analyze traffic loads on available and existing lines to forecast/estimate projected traffic to determine new construction or rearrangements/removals as required.
-Ability to select routing of lines and determine equipment requirements.

Qualifications for an Outside Plant Planner
Licensed Professional Engineer or degree in engineering preferred or equivalent experience
3 to 5 years of relevant telecommunications engineering experience
Knowledge of telecommunication construction, RUS practices & standards, and telecommunications plant operations
Knowledge of permitting processes (highway, railroad, city, county, etc.) are highly desired
Valid driver's license required

Work Schedule
This is a full-time position that typically works 40 hours per week. Occasional after-hours work may be required.
