Phila. CeaseFire, a national Cure Violence Replication site, is seeking to expand its work with high risk youth and adults in the Northwest Region of the City of Phila. This team of credible messengers will work to reduce violent crime by replicating the Cure Violence evidence based violence reduction model which involves case management support, conducting mediations, and working in tandem with area residents, local businesses, area hospitals and faith leaders. Cure Violence is a coordinated community driven strategy designed to address shootings in Philadelphia and other communities throughout the nation. Skilled Cure Violence Outreach Workers are a key ingredient to the success of this initiative

Responsibilities include: getting to know all high-risk people in the assigned area, particularly minors under 19; establishing visible neighborhood presence when shootings occur; serving as a resource for community members including enhancing assistance and use of opportunities (e.g., job programs, GED, drug treatment, and mentoring).; determining causes of shootings and reasons what strategies, if the team was not informed, will result in better notification; gaining trust of assigned community, including highest-risk individuals; calling for assistance when needed.

Other responsibilities include anticipating and responding to Supervisor's requests and needs; continuously informing Director on areas of success and opportunities for improvement; conducting outreach to the community (individually and as a team member) to build strong relationships with youth, residents, businesses, and community groups; identifying youth who are gang members and those at-risk for joining gangs and intervening in their lives through case management to aid in solving current problems and preventing future ones; advocating for youth through court testimonies, when necessary; participating, as necessary, in organizing responses to shootings and increasing visibility when shootings/killings take place (e.g., developing networks with other outreach program workers to coordinate an inclusive and strategic response); investigating causes of shootings/killings to assist in mediating situations and preventing retaliation between individuals and groups (e.g., working with the community, outreach programs and local law enforcement to gain information that may be helpful in preventing additional killings) and provide documentation; identifying and diffusing "hot spots" for shootings and violence (e.g., conducting eyeball surveys with residents and community based organizations to identify areas frequented by potential offenders) and provide documentation; documenting shootings and other acts of violence prevented; responding to shootings in other communities when necessary; documenting detailed client case notes. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Education & Experience:
At least one year experience working with at-risk youth and gang members, and experience or training in crisis intervention. Must have valid PA driver's license, insurance, and good driving record. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. 

Required Skills & Abilities:

*Demonstrated ability to document cases 
*Ability to mediate high-risk situations

This position requires a DMV background check.
This position requires Child Abuse Certifications prior to the commencement of service.
This is a grant funded position.

This position is assigned a hybrid work arrangement (on-campus and remote), the duration of this hybrid work arrangement is at the discretion of Temple University and the Department.
