Job Description
The Elementary Out of School Teacher will play a vital role in efficiently administrating and implementing a safe and engaging environment for Elementary-Aged Students before school and during school closings and breaks. The Teacher will plan and execute various activities to deliver an engaging curriculum while prioritizing the program participants' safety, growth, and development. Effective communication with children, parents, and fellow staff members will also be a key responsibility. Classroom management skills that support a fair and equitable environment are critical to the multi-age classroom of 5- to 12-year-olds.
Qualifications:
A minimum age of 21 and a high school diploma or equivalent are required for this role. A preferred minimum of one year of experience in an early childhood setting and 1-2 years of early childhood education or completion of requirements for the CDA certification or associate degree are also desirable. A comprehensive understanding and knowledge of children, including their behavioral development and age-appropriate activities, crafts, and music, is critical for this position. Establishing rapport and addressing the developmental needs of children ages 5-12 is also essential. Effective communication with children, parents, and coworkers is another critical requirement. Current certifications in First Aid, Child Abuse Prevention training, Safety training, New Employee Orientation, and any other required training must be obtained within 30 days of employment. The capacity to maintain strict confidentiality concerning personal information related to children, families, and staff, as described in the NAEYC Code of Ethical Conduct, is required. Finally, the ability to work with various age groups ranging from younger elementary to older elementary is needed.
Physical and Mental Demands:
It is essential to keep a watchful eye on children, even in distracting environments. You may need to stand for long periods during program activities. Be prepared to bend at the knees and waist as required. Occasionally, you may need to lift and carry equipment weighing up to 40 lbs. as needed for program activities. You should be able to demonstrate and lead various activities effectively. Good communication skills are essential for interacting with students, parents, school personnel, and staff. You should be able to reason, problem-solve, and make sound judgments and decisions even in noisy and active settings. It is crucial to promote and adhere to safety and security procedures. Finally, you should be physically and mentally capable of responding to emergencies and administering CPR and First Aid effectively.
Job Responsibilities:
As a program overseer, you will be responsible for the day-to-day operation, including child supervision and activities. Maintaining a clean and organized environment before and after daily tasks and building positive relationships with each child is essential to creating a nurturing learning environment. Accurate and up-to-date program documentation, such as attendance and incident reports, should be your priority. You should be able to communicate effectively with both parents and colleagues, both verbally and in writing. Creating a safe and stimulating environment that promotes child development is also crucial to the job. In the event of an emergency, prioritize the safety of the children. Attending staff meetings, in-service training, and recommended workshops is mandatory. You should be proficient in using technology like Procare, HiMama, or Brightwheel.
