Organizing Director - Farm-to-Power

Hiring 4 directors, one per state, to serve in Arizona, Ohio, New Mexico, or Wisconsin.

Employer: Farm- to-Power

Remote work allowed: Yes, but applicants must reside in Arizona, Ohio, New Mexico, or Wisconsin to be considered.

Travel Required: Yes, frequent travel is required. All travel expenses will be reimbursed.

Pay and Benefits: $8,000- $10,000/month contractor fees, depending on experience.

Job Type: Full-Time 1099 Contractor, with future consideration of full-time employment.

Who We Are:

Farm-to-Power (FTP) is a nonpartisan, not-for-profit 501(c)(3) information and advocacy platform born of the great need to provide balance in the dialogue around the impact of clean energy infrastructure in rural, agriculturally based communities.

Farm-to-Power’s mission is to work in collaboration with agricultural organizations and farming and ranching communities to identify and then target areas where there is the most significant risk of misinformation, opposition messaging, and inaccurate data, driving critical decisions around the development of clean energy—including utility-scale wind and solar farms as well as the transmission infrastructure interconnecting these vital resources.

We aim to develop a coalition of farmers, ranchers and community stakeholders with agricultural backgrounds willing to take a stand to support renewable and transmission projects and use their voices and platforms to encourage others in agricultural communities or with agricultural backgrounds to do the same.

The Position:

Farm-To-Power is hiring 4 State Organizer Directors in Arizona, Ohio, New Mexico, and Wisconsin.

The State Organizing Directors will serve as the public spokesperson, campaign director, and people manager for our overall program. They are responsible for managing the day-to-day operations and carrying out our broader strategic objectives in accordance with the mission set by our Executive Director and Board of Directors. They work with and oversee field staff, including one or more field organizers, in public outreach, coalition building, issue advocacy, and campaign communications within the state.

Each State Organizing Director will report to the Executive Director.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Field Organizing. Proven track record of success in organizing, coalition building, engaging elected officials, and in leading large, complex campaigns– specifically in rural communities.
  • Team Building. Natural leader who will identify, recruit, train, and develop a talented team of staff– and organizational supporters Manage staff and build an organization around a culture that promotes diversity, transparency, collaboration, and a desire to change the world for the better.
  • Communications. Skilled communicator who is comfortable taking on controversial issues by talking to voters on their doorsteps, presenting at large group community meetings, speaking with local press, and being the public-facing voice of our campaign. Drafts and refines winning messaging for campaign communications.
  • Stakeholder Partnerships. Demonstrated experience in building issue-based or political coalitions to support candidates/causes. Demonstrates good judgment with stakeholders and can work with a diverse coalition of partner organizations.
  • Strategic Planning. Highly organized professional who will create and implement strategic campaign plans. Ensures numeric goals and key milestones are met to drive strategy and the success of our campaign.
  • Non-Profit Operations. Monitor day-to-day operations, reporting, and other compliance as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned based on campaign needs.

Qualifications:

  • 3-5 years experience in non-profit or political, community organizing, or campaign-related work required.
  • 1-3 years experience in non-profit or campaign staff management/ supervision required.
  • Experience in agriculture and/ or renewable energy is a plus but not required.

Other:

  • Must have a commitment to renewable energy and organizing in rural communities.
  • Must be able to travel extensively within all regions of the state (all travel-related expenses paid).
  • Must be able to work weekends, evenings, and for long, irregular hours based on campaign needs (generous leave and benefits package).
  • Must have a car, driver’s license, and valid insurance. Mileage reimbursement is provided.
