Overview

Element has an opportunity for the Organics Organics Department Supervisor at our Lafayette, LA location. The OrganicsDepartment Supervisor is a key member of the department's safety team and provides awareness around safety first. You will be relied upon heavily by other colleagues such as technicians, peers, Department Manager, Operations Manager, General Manager and other positions. In this role you will guide the technical staff in timely completion of daily work and may be designated as the main contact for customer on-site visits.

 

Responsibilities
  • Responsible for organizing and directing the daily activities of the Organics Department, including Volatiles, Semi-Volatiles, and Extractions
  • Responsible for supervising Organics laboratory personnel. Play an active role in recruiting, hiring, training and people development within the department
  • Prepare and deliver performance reviews, development plans and performance improvement plans for staff
  • Monitor backlog to meet method holding times as well as client project TAT requirements. Manger workflow and communicates work status and laboratory capabilities to project management and laboratory management
  • Review analytical data for accuracy and completeness.
  • Responsible for troubleshooting analytical instrumentation and analytical processes. Oversee equipment maintenance within the department
  • Act as primary technical expert for the Organics Department. Set up new equipment and provide method development as required to support growth
  • Develop, review and revise standard operating procedures for the Organics department
  • Serve as a backup for staff within the department
  • Order supplies for the Organics Department
  • Offer recommendations for new equipment/procedures to increase productivity and efficiency within the department
  • Other duties as assigned
Skills / Qualifications
  • BS/BA in Chemistry or related science, preferably with six years experience in the environmental testing laboratory setting and four years as a supervisor
  • Strong self-starting abilities
  • Familiar with EPA methods (5035, 3550, 3546, 624/8260, 625/8270, 602/8021, 8015, VPH/EPH, TO-15, ASTM D-1946, etc.), QA/QC and TNI standards
  • In-depth experience in analytical instrumentation including GC-FID/PID, GC/MS, Purge & Trap, GC-ECD, TO-15, etc.
  • Organized and detail oriented
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and leadership skills
  • Ability to remain positive when under challenging situations. Strong problem solving skills
