Job Description

A Day in the Life:

PRT + IFCO Seedlings is seeking a full-timeOrchard Specialist to be based in Moultrie, Georgia.  The position will participate in the management of seed orchards to produce the highest quality seed of genetically improved southern pines. Activities include orchard establishment and maintenance, grafting, fertilizer and herbicide application, controlled mass pollination (CMP) production, and cone harvest.  The position will require up to 40% overnight travel.

Key Accountabilities of the Orchard Specialist:

• Play a key role in CMP production efforts.
• Care of orchards, equipment, and facilities for development of future cone crops.
• Operation of tractors, forklift, aerial boom lift, UTVs, chainsaws, and power tools.
• Work with internal and external resources to achieve production and research objectives in a safe, efficient manner.
• Maintain detailed records.

About the team:

This position is part of a team of Orchard Specialists and will report to the Eastern Seed Orchard Manager. Lead by the VP Production Southeast & Forest Genetic Services. Our Forest Services Team is also comprised of a Western Orchard team reporting into our Seed Operations Manager.

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications:

• A bachelor’s degree or diploma in horticulture, agriculture, or forestry, or the equivalent combination of education and experience
• Familiarity and mechanical skills with farm equipment and tractors
• Strong verbal and written communication skills;
• Proficient in Excel, Word, and Outlook;
