Optometric Assistant/Scribe Job description

We are seeking a compassionate employee who is friendly, efficient, and willing to work as a team player at our busy, multi-Optometrist Office. Full-time position, Monday - Friday, (potential schedule for 4 - 10’s to be determined) some Saturdays, benefits available.

You will perform routine administrative and clinical assignments to keep the medical facility running smoothly.

Responsibilities:

• Handle all administrative duties in a timely manner
• Perform routine clinical tasks to support medical staff
• Communicate with insurance companies for proper billing procedures
• Escort patients to exam rooms

• Previous experience in healthcare administration or other related fields
• Familiarity with medical billing procedures
• Strong organizational skills
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment

Job knowledge Requirements:

• Knowledge of insurance plans - recommended not required
• Strong basic math skills
• Basic computer skills
• Strong Data Entry skills
• Be a self-starter and problem solver
• Excellent communication skills and quality patient care
• Aptitude for quickly learning our software programs
• Not overwhelmed by a fast pace work environment
• Excellent ability to multitask
• Knowledge of insurance plans
• Ability to train/assist other staff as needed (communicate/share knowledge/experience w/ others)
• Adjust/repair eyeglass frames
• Answer phones
• Schedule appointments
• Process patient payments
• Train/Support other staff members
• Additional duties as assigned
• Duties will include but are not limited to the following :
• Prepare, update and maintain patient records
• Provide outstanding customer service
• Prepare exam room for patient and optometrist
• Conducting pre-test, post-test on patients using various pieces of equipment
• Assists optometrist during and after exam
• Follow up with all patient care plan items (referrals, prescriptions, testing etc)
• Liaison amongst care team -
• Educate patients as directed by optometrist
• Understand sterilization and cleaning procedures
• We are willing to provide additional training for motivated applicants. Our practice is service orientated and great patient care is a must!

Employee will be trained onsite and will potentially be cross trained to assist in other areas of the practice.
