Job description

This position is located in the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs (OJP), National Institute of Justice (NIJ), OJP's mission is to increase public safety and improve the fair administration of justice across America through innovative leadership and programs. NIJ's mission is to advance scientific research, development, and evaluation to enhance the administration of justice and public safety.Qualifications: Basic Entry Requirements:

  • A bachelor's degree or higher in Operations Research -OR-
  • At least 24 semester hours in a combination of Operations Research, mathematics, probability, statistics, mathematical logic, science, or subject-matter courses requiring substantial competence in college level mathematics or statistics. At least 3 of the 24 semester hours must have been in calculus.

Specialized Experience:
Applicants must have one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-13 level. Specialized experience is experience which is in or related to the line of work of the position to be filled and which has equipped the applicant with the specific knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position.
Examples of specialized experience include:

  • Provides expert analysis and advice on complex Evidence Act program issues and evidence-based data systems such as CrimeSolutions.gov.
  • Formulates, plans, and/or recommends research and evaluation projects and programs.
  • Conducts foundational fact-finding research and analysis such as aggregate indicators, exploratory studies, descriptive statistics, and basic research.
  • Develops methods and analytical approaches for building evidence within an agency to use data to support policy decisions.
