Job description

SUMMARY
This position will lead the interface between Operators, Maintenance and Customer Service and oversee the production schedule for the Asphalt Plant. This job requires excellent self-direction, working alone or in small teams and with minimal supervision.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Take personal ownership to work safely every day and hold other team members to the same high standards of safety.
  • Responsible for team safety, production, product quality, and material/labor efficiency.
  • Work closely with Operators and Maintenance in troubleshooting process problems.
  • Achieve maximum throughput and efficiencies at the lowest possible costs, within prescribed quality levels
  • Complete required daily reports including but not limited to Quality Testing, LEL Reporting, Shift Status, Converter Operations, Safety Incident Reporting, etc.
  • Tank Gauging knowledge and ability.
  • Loading and unloading trucks as needed and ensure proper procedures are followed.
  • Maintain a close partnership with the Operations Leader to implement site process improvements and goals
  • Data entry to include Goods Receipts, SAP Requisitions, SAP Process Order creation, SAP COGI reconciliation, Rail CarTracking and other plant tracking as needed.
  • Package Material Count Sheet quarterly inventory reconciliation.
  • Check in of BURA package flatbed loads and communicate with CSR as needed.
  • Backup for monthly raw material/finish goods inventory count and reconciliation.
  • All additional Converter Operator - Class I accountabilities not listed.
  • All other duties as assigned or needed.

Maintenance
  • Monitor critical equipment - pre-heater, hot oil, incinerator, blowers, boiler (quick walk through daily).
  • Complete or assign certain maintenance tasks (non-electrical), such as blow downs, oil/filter changes on blowers.
  • Aid in downtime work planning and delegation of responsibilities.

Operations:
  • Certified as Operator - Class 1.
  • Assist with Operator training through each step.
  • Assist with day-to-day operations, including covering for breaks.
  • Run the production schedule and update it daily.
  • Monitor rail activity and maintain communications with DGNO on service issues.
  • Schedule Asst. Operator work as needed.
  • Fill in for the Operator as needed.

Other Activities
  • Ensure team members have the resources and training to do the job.
  • Day to day coaching and counseling of employees on production schedule and targets.
  • Assist with new hire training/onboarding.
  • Attend Shift huddles to act as a resource to the plant.
  • Actively engage in the plant's Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) efforts

SKILLS AND ABILITIES
The employee should hold the following abilities:
  • Demonstrated leadership in current and previous jobs
  • Must be able to work independently or in a team atmosphere with minimal direct supervision
  • Demonstrated the ability to set priorities and escalate issues in a timely manner
  • Must have to ability to do basic mathematical calculations
  • Good oral and written communication skills

COMPUTER AND SOFTWARE COMPENTENCIES
The employee must be able to:
  • Utilize Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, Access.
  • Experience with and working knowledge of SAP.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
The employee should have the following:
  • High School Diploma or GED Equivalent.
  • Preferred to have completed leadership training.
  • Operations Knowledge in the following areas (not all inclusive): Boilers, Incinerator, Preheaters, Tank Burners, Truck Loading/Unloading, Railcar Unloading, Acid Injection System, and Computer Control Operations.

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT
The employee should possess the ability to:
  • Exposure to temperature extremes - working outside in hot / cold temperatures.
  • Prolonged sitting or standing for 12-hour shifts.
  • Ability to move up to 40 pounds/lift up to 40lbs in a single event/35 lbs in a repetitive event.
  • Able to climb ladders/stairs to reach the top of tanks or equipment (maximum 50 ft)
