The anticipated salary range for this role is between $123,000.00 and $166,000.00. The specific salary offered to an applicant will be based on their individual qualifications, experiences, and an analysis of the current compensation paid in their geography and the market for similar roles at the time of hire. The role may also be eligible for an annual discretionary incentive award. In addition to cash compensation, SMBC offers a competitive portfolio of benefits to its employees.
Role Description
Reporting to the Director within the Operational Risk Officer team, the VP of Operational Risk Review & Challenge supports the Second Line of Defense Risk Management Department Americas Division's (RMDAD) Non-Financial Risk team for the Combined U.S. Operations (CUSO) in accordance with US Regulations, Head Office policies and industry practices for Risk Management.
The VP of Review & Challenge is responsible for supporting the team with the ownership over the Review & Challenge and quality control process for the Risk and Control Self-Assessment (RCSA) program and other programs that support the RCSA.
Role Objectives

  • Oversee and manage the review and challenge process that is driven by the Risk and Control Self-assessment program.
  • Facilitate the review and challenge process for each RCSA by distributing the results and expectations with the Second line of defense domain leads.
  • Partner with the Operational Risk Officers with the identification of substantive review and challenge by reviewing RCSAs, themes and other information (i.e. issues).
  • Oversee the continuous training with the various domain leads on review and challenge expectations.
  • Review the completeness and disposition of the review and challenge feedback and partner with the Operational Risk Officers to ensure consistency.
  • Manage the quality control process that includes agenda setting for a weekly call.
  • Maintenance and development of reports to identify quality control issues.
  • Participate with the review and challenge of Key Risk Indicators (KRIs) and issues.
  • Oversight over the quality of risk and control linkage to issues, events and KRIs.

Qualifications and Skills
  • 7-10 years of experience in Operational Risk Management with review and challenge experience.
  • Strong organizational skills, with proven ability to successfully manage multiple, concurrent priorities.
  • Detail oriented, with proven ability to question the status quo and apply effective challenge, as appropriate.
  • Strong interpersonal and communications skills to successfully interface across various levels and maintain solid working relationships.
  • Experience with the Microsoft Office suite.
  • Bachelor's degree.
