MetLife's Global Risk Management organization is aligned with and embedded within businesses to appropriately manage risks arising from products, services, and business operations. The MIM Risk Management team is responsible for supporting and overseeing MetLife's global asset management business, MetLife Investment Management (MIM). This team ensures that effective risk management is embedded in day-to-day operations and reflected in business strategies and related activities and represents MIM in enterprise risk discussions.
The role of Senior Operational Risk Consultant - Operational Risk Management will support the MIM Head of Operational Risk in continuing the development and execution of a strong risk management and control framework alongside or business partners in MIM. The individual will play a critical role to promote, support and advise MIM in identifying, monitoring, and managing key risks within a growing asset management business to enable achievement of strategy and objectives.
The role requires regular dialogue with the MIM Chief Risk Officer, Investments Compliance, Enterprise Risk Management, and Internal Audit, as well as first line functions including Operations, Client Services and Portfolio Management.
The objective is to support MetLife's Non-Financial Risk ("Operational Risk") Management Framework activities, including risk and control self-assessments, risk event collection and analysis, issues management, and maintenance of the Risk and Controls inventory.
Key Responsibilities:
- Drive effective execution of risk and control self-assessments of MIM's key risk areas to ensure appropriate controls are implemented and operating as intended
- Collaborate with business and functional groups to develop and supervise Risk Appetite, Key Risk Indicators ("KRIs") and mitigation plans for effective risk management
- Analyze assessment results to identify risk trends and themes to management
- Promote and build a strong Operational Risk management culture across business and functional groups through ongoing engagement, training, and relationship building
- Serve within the second line of defense as an independent challenge function in the evaluation of risks, controls and remediation plans
- Oversee execution and quality of assessments to ensure adherence to the MetLife Operational Risk standards
- Maintain strong partnerships with Enterprise Risk Management and other second/third line functions (e.g., Internal Audit, Internal Control Dept, Compliance, etc.)
- Assist in the preparation of materials for reoccurring Operational Risk governance activities and Executive level reporting

- Demonstrated knowledge in Operational Risk Management leading practices and ability to document Process, Risk and Controls
- Ability to manage shifting priorities to deliver results
- Proven understanding of risk management tools / platforms such as OpenPages and/or Archer
- Strong presentation skills with familiarity in MS Office suite of applications, particularly PowerPoint
- Strong written and oral communications
- Strong project management and time management skills with an ability to independently lead a project through to completion
- Attention to detail and accuracy in all business results
Preferred:
- Bachelors Degree and 5-8 years of Operational Risk and/or Audit Experience
