Northern New Mexico College (NNMC) is a public two-year and four-year degree granting institution founded in 1909 by the New Mexico Constitution. NNMC is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. NNMC operates from two campuses in Espanola and El Rito and serves an average of 1,100-1,200 students per semester.
The Department of Mathematics and Physical Science offers Associate and Bachelor's degrees in Mathematics, a Certificate in Data Science, and services other departments by offering a variety of mathematics and physical science courses. This position focuses on corequisite math instruction as the college is transitioning from traditional developmental courses into a full-scale implementation of the corequisite model. In the corequisite model, students are automatically placed into credit-bearing math courses and receive extra help and instruction in a corequisite support course. Starting Fall 2024, the Department will begin offering corequisite math courses and will need a committed faculty member to teach, develop curriculum, collaborate with other faculty, and coordinate these classes. The position requires an on-campus presence at the Espanola Campus for face-to-face teaching of courses and tutoring.
Duties & Responsibilities
  • Teach 12 credit hours per semester of assigned mathematics courses;
  • Develop and refine curriculum for corequisite courses;
  • Advise students regarding curriculum and career matters;
  • Assess student learning outcomes;
  • Serve on college committees;
  • Attend all departmental meetings;
  • Hold regular office hours and tutor students at the Math Center of Excellence;
  • Participate in scholarly and professional development activities;
  • Participate in new student orientation, recruitment and retention initiatives;
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
  • Teaching experience in Mathematics in high school or higher education;
  • Experience with mentoring and advising students;
  • Strong presentation and communication skills;
  • Experience with curriculum development;
  • Ability to work effectively with underprepared students and diverse groups.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Tenure-Track Assistant Professor position: Ph.D. in Mathematics or a closely related field. ABDs are welcome and encouraged to apply. However, ABDs must obtain a PhD to be eligible to apply for tenure.
Visiting Professor and Instructor position: Master's Degree in Mathematics or a closely related field.
SALARY: Based on credentials and experience. Starting salary for an Assistant Professor in Mathematics with a PhD is $60,778 as per the current Collective Bargaining Agreement.
While the position will remain open until filled, interested applicants are encouraged to submit a complete application package by March 31, 2024.
APPLICATION PROCEDURE: A complete application must include 1) a cover letter addressing how the candidate's experiences match the position requirements, 2) curriculum vitae, 3) unofficial transcripts of graduate degrees, 4) a statement addressing the candidate's teaching philosophy, 5) two letters of recommendation which focus on the candidate's teaching ability and 6) names, addresses, phone numbers and email addresses of three professional references. Incomplete applications will not be reviewed.
Required application materials should be sent to: humanresources@nnmc.edu
References will be contacted in conjunction with interviews and official transcripts will be requested once an offer is made.
EEO STATEMENT: NNMC is an equal opportunity employer.
