Purpose of the Position

The Librarian will be responsible for providing support student development of information literacy, research and documentation. S/He will support and collaborate with program leadership, instructors, academic facilitators, learner services advisors, and the curriculum team to highlight resources, manage content collections, and provide relevant research to explore and validate initiatives. S/He provides face-to-face and online direct instruction in research, information literacy and basic writing skills for both ground and online students. The Librarian conducts outreach in an effort to uphold academic excellence and provide intervention/remediation related to proper citation. S/He remains responsive to student needs and communication. The Librarian will audit and keep up to date digital and physical content collections such as the Student Success Center and ground Library Resource Centers to meet the ever-changing needs of a diverse academic community.


UMA is a nonprofit healthcare educational institution with a national presence. Headquartered in Tampa, Florida and founded in 1994, UMA offers content-rich, interactive online programs as well as hands-on training at our Clearwater, Florida campus.

  • Anticipated starting rate of $27.00/hr; interim role for 14 weeks

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provides face-to-face and online direct instruction in research, information literacy and basic writing skills for both ground and online students.
  • Effectively communicates UMA Scholastic Honesty expectations to students and other staff as appropriate and escalates any concerns to their direct manager.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of accreditation standards related to library services and ensure compliance.
  • Describes or demonstrates procedures for navigating the public access catalog or electronic resources such as CD-ROM databases.
  • Develops research guides, videos, and other instructional resources and services for training and development.
  • Tracks, documents, and manages all reported plagiarism infractions; initiates student outreach to provide and/or coordinate student support on proper citation to protect intellectual property.
  • Researches and makes recommendations for the institution and students products/tools for research, word processing, and content management.
  • Develops and prepares job aids and conducts learning sessions including library orientation to instruct online and ground students on proper navigation and utilization of various library resources.
  • Assists with documentation of Standard Operating Procedures and technical writing assignments as assigned.
  • Promotes awareness of resources through quarterly cross-departmental trainings for faculty and staff.
  • Collaborates with instructors and academic facilitators to assist students with understanding key topics.
  • Maintains online and ground campus library collection and tracks usage.
  • Established effective and efficient for the maintenance and circulation of physical and digital content collections and material.
  • Coordinates with ground library aids/volunteers and/or assistants to ensure proper compliance and service delivery.
  • Maintains professional knowledge and participates in continuing education programs for library operations and procedures.
  • Solicits feedback from program leadership and/or instructors related to resource effectiveness and instructional needs.
  • Remains current with new resources and technology, identifying technologies that will improve service.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of, and carefully follows all applicable federal and state compliance requirements and regulations including those prescribed by the Department of Education, accrediting agencies, CIE, and internal UMA policies and procedures.
  • Effectively communicates compliance requirements to students and other staff as appropriate and quickly escalates any compliance concerns to the Compliance department.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education/Experience
  • Master Degree (M.A) in Library or Information Science from an ALA-accredited institution required
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience providing educational services required.
  • Knowledge of laws and ethical practices related to privacy of student records required.
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication and organization skills required.
  • Strong computer skills and knowledge of office applications required.
  • Ability to present in a group setting required.
  • Experience with online library programs, information resources, and content management tools preferred.
  • Knowledge of Section 504 and Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act & Americans with Disabilities Act preferred.
  • Knowledge of learning strategies and intervention preferred.
