The Water Services Engineer at Micron Technology, Inc., is responsible for working in a team environment with other engineering fields to provide engineering for the design, operation, and solving of the UPW system, reclaim system, the wastewater treatment plant (IWTP), metal waste treatment systems, and drains from the Fab. The UPW systems include the site city water distribution system, pretreatment plant, deionized water plant, ion exchange trains, reverse osmosis units, polishing systems, and distribution piping to and from the Fab production equipment. The reclaim system includes the rinse water waste drain piping, storage tanks, reclaim ion exchange trains, and reclaim water distribution piping to the Fab production equipment. IWTP consists of equalization tanks, clarifiers, neutralization tanks, distribution piping, sludge management and discharge system to the City of Boise. The metal waste treatment systems include dilute metal waste and concentrated copper waste treatment skids and related drain piping networks from the Fab production equipment. All drain networks from the Fab production equipment to each storage tank is also included in the responsibilities of this role. Monitoring contaminant projections in conjunction with the site discharge permit and environmental regulations is required.

Safety & Quality:

  • Finishes the required safety training and conducts all work in accordance with Micron and Technology Development (TD) safety policies
  • Stops work for safety if unsafe conditions and/or behaviors are identified
  • Applies and reviews job hazard analysis (JHA/JSA) for work being performed
  • Follows all safety and environmental procedures to ensure compliance with applicable laws including PPE, CoHE (lockout /tagout) and chemical safety
  • Actively participates in the EHS program by reporting all EHS-related concerns or problems immediately (maximum 24 hours)
  • Performs and facilitates audits and submits good catches
  • Always wears appropriate PPE, per JHA, supervisor, EHS professionals, and/or job designation
  • Proactively finds opportunities to reduce potential hazards which may impact personnel health and/or the environment
  • Uses proper lifting techniques and works in an ergonomically correct manner
  • Follows proper organisational change practices to ensure safety and quality expectations are met
  • Drives quality improvement initiatives in their area to reduce Fab impacts, improve efficiency and identify cost savings
  • Operates and maintains equipment and tools within manufacturer’s and company guidelines to ensure safety and quality expectations are met
  • Ensures area-specific procedures and documents exist and submits updates to content when needed

Communication & Collaboration:

  • Ensures appropriate communication with facilities and manufacturing partners
  • Partners with key customers to develop solutions to continuously improve critical metrics
  • Partners with collaborators to resolve equipment/process issues and improve system stability
  • Collaborates with areas leaders to create personal performance and development goals
  • Communicates proactively with leaders and partners on the daily priorities and issues
  • Attends and participates in meetings and provides relevant technical recommendations
  • Partners with area leaders and team members to gather input for area improvement
  • Communicates changes made to equipment and follows business rules for change control
  • Partners in data collection, gap analysis, and improvement implementation
  • Proactively communicates issues that could cause Fab impact, defects, tool restrictions, or lost moves

Project Management/Planning:

  • Applies a systematic project management methodology to develop, prioritize and manage projects
  • Manages projects to ensure work is completed within the required scope, schedule and budget
  • Tracks actions and provides blocking issue path or resources to ensure actions will be completed on time
  • Defines and leads complex, multi-disciplinary projects of critical importance to Micron
  • Collaborates with partners on the design and coordination of projects
  • Prepares project scope and ensures necessary guidance from appropriate partners
  • Ensures that scope meets requester needs
  • Collaborates with consultant resources
  • Coordinates and leads meetings and initiates follow-up actions
  • Provides support for the installation or commissioning of new facilities infrastructure
  • Provides support for cost and schedule estimates and justification for approval
  • Reviews design packages
  • Follows organisational change procedures
  • Works with appropriate personnel to address problems or make corrections
  • Supports equipment startup and commissioning
  • Helps to shape strategic decisions and provides technical support

Technical/Data Analysis:

  • Analyzes systems data to make critical decisions, improve performance, gain efficiency, and drive cost savings
  • Provides effective and timely guidance to resolve issues and is highly engaged in key problem resolution
  • Provides solving support for complex problems and addresses root cause
  • Performs problem analysis using standard tools and methodologies
  • Supports risk and/or failure mode and effects analysis
  • Eliminates single points of failure and mitigates risk
  • Provides consultation and technical support to Operations, Maintenance, Manufacturing and other department/sites
  • Provides engineering support to ensure facility compliance with federal, state, and local laws
  • Identifies and develops a strategy for equipment/processes that streamlines PM frequencies and effectiveness
  • Partners with key customers to identify gaps and opportunities for equipment/process efficiencies
  • Works with Manufacturing on excursion root cause identification, elimination, and prevention
  • Supports corporate requests and assignments
  • Supports benchmark activities on operational, procedural, engineering, facilities systems
  • Maintains applicable team knowledge, such as chemical theory, instrumentation control theory, high purity principles, etc.
  • Drives a culture of TPM including TPM metrics, CIP items, MTAGs, and procedures
  • Provides engineering oversight of bulk chemical, UPW and wastewater systems
  • Provides solving support to Facilities operations personnel on existing and new UPW and wastewater equipment
  • Reviews all UPW and wastewater requirements during shutdown activities
  • Supports startup of new equipment and ensures all equipment will properly collaborate with other mechanical systems
  • Provides support for construction cost estimates and economic analysis of proposed projects including consumable budgets and projections
  • Applies standard engineering principles and uses predictive maintenance techniques to identify water system and drain issues
  • Establishes procedures and corrective actions to avoid reoccurrences of issues
  • Maintains and updates the site water mass balance, which includes water reuse rates
  • Specifies mechanical components for design
  • Reviews the city water bill for accuracy and trending, to forecast site city water and discharge flow requirements and costs
  • Applies standard engineering principles and practices
  • Applies administrative and engineering databases in support of job tracking, engineering data, capital equipment facilitation, and critical system loads and capacities
  • Performs research and development on emerging facilities technologies to support innovative semiconductor processes
  • Incorporates safety controls in every aspect of the design, enhancement, and modification process

Education and Experience:

  • Required: Minimum – Relevant degree or appropriate certification/licensing; Chemical, civil or environmental engineering, Chemistry, or related field of study
  • Preferred: Three or more years of experience
