The Oklahoma Biotech Startup Programs (OKBIOSTART) Marketing Manager will lead the community outreach and event planning for the Tom Love Innovation Hub’s OKBIOSTART Program. The OKBIOSTART Marketing Manager reports to the OKBIOSTART Executive Director. The OKBIOSTART Programs will bring together key ecosystem partners across academia, investors, corporate, government, and entrepreneurial support organizations to provide a comprehensive suite of programs to accelerate innovation, commercialize research, and grow new biotech startups in Central Oklahoma in a repeatable, scalable manner.The OKBIOSTART Marketing Manager will provide strategic leadership around engaging and building a diverse, equitable, and inclusive OKBIOSTART Community. The Community will connect academic researchers, local biotech and healthcare workforce, and would-be entrepreneurs from the ecosystem through outreach, events, and conferences. The OKBIOSTART Marketing Manager will work closely with the other I-Hub-affiliated organizations, such as Canopy HealthTech, the OU Price College marketing team, and central marketing, team to share and coordinate marketing and outreach activities. Primary Roles & Responsibilities:
  • Serves as the lead for the development, implementation and evaluation of community-based events, programs, and conferences
  • Explores and creates new program opportunities
  • Coordinates with internal and external constituents to foster program growth
  • Initiates, coordinates and evaluates program awareness and education initiatives, conducted either solely by OKBIOSTART or in partnership with mission-aligned community organizations, focusing on Oklahoma’s biotech community
  • Outreach through social media and other online channels, direct outreach to applicable organizations or individuals, community events, including public speaking and networking
  • Promote brand awareness through consistent messaging & storytelling across various digital platforms
  • Generate creative ideas on a constant basis and work comfortably with varied stakeholders
  • Build relationships with and pitch stories to local, regional and national media
  • Aligns deliverables to the program’s outcome.
  • Meets with stakeholders to discuss program status and goals.
  • Provides oversight of ongoing projects.
  • Interfaces with university departments, funding sources, outside organizations and state & government agencies.
  • Assesses program effectiveness and identifies areas of improvement.
  • Manages program documentation, data collection, and reporting
  • Performs various duties as needed to successfully fulfill the function of the position

Job Location

Required Education/Experience: Bachelors degree in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, or related field AND:

  • 48 months in marketing, public relations, communications or related experience.

Equivalency Substitution: Will accept 48 months of related experience in lieu of the Bachelors degree for a total of 96 months related experience.

Skills:

  • Project management
  • Networking 
  • Well-versed in copy writing, graphic design, new media, brand management
  • Experience in Adobe Creative Suite and Wix (or other CMS) is a plus
  • Skilled in Microsoft Office, with a strong knowledge of Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Basic understanding of professional cameras, photography equipment and editing software
  • Ability to lead and organize community building events from speakers and workshops to larger conferences and symposiums
  • Ability to craft stories that elevates OKBIOSTART’s reputation & builds brand recognition
  • Use interesting and compelling narratives to clearly & precisely express complex information
  • Demonstrate curiosity, creativity, drive for excellence and attention to detail
  • Possess confidence, patience and flexibility in a rapidly evolving environment
  • Highly receptive to feedback and coaching
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize multiple projects, often with shifting priorities and requiring collaboration across many departments
  • Ability to work independently with modest supervision

Advertised Physical/Environmental Requirements:

  • Must be able to communicate effectively and sit for prolonged periods.
  • Ability to engage in repetitive motions.  
  • Use of a computer.
  • Standard Office Environment.  
  • Frequent exposure to pressure caused by deadlines and busy periods.
  • Ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies.  
  • Requires contact with other departments and University officials.

Departmental Preferences:

  • Masters’ degree 
  • Direct experience with the biotech industry
  • Experience in public relations or communications for a nonprofit, educational or entrepreneurial organization highly desired.
