The OIG Nurse Surveyor I position, under direction, assists in the enforcement of state licensing regulations for health facilities performs guided certification surveys and investigations to determine compliance with The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) regulations; learns to complete all aspects of the survey process; completes training and obtains Surveyor Minimum Qualifications Test; and observes the quality of patient care and associated medical records. Responsibilities and duties:
- Under direction, assists senior surveyors and learns to complete all aspects of the annual Long-Term Care (LTC) recertification survey process to determine compliance with requirements related to the Medicare and Medicaid programs.
- Under direction, conducts routine, acute, continuing care, and LTC surveys to include initial certification and complaint investigation surveys.
- Conducts surveys utilizing observation, interview, and record review skills to assess the care of the ill, injured, or infirmed.
- Collects and analyzes nursing assessment data to determine compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Under direction, assists in the development of program information, analysis of situation, and explanatory material, to include written communication, reports, and statements of deficiency.
- Under direction, evaluates corrective measures taken in instances where there is failure to comply with prescribed rules, regulations, and policies.
- Under direction, assists senior surveyors to explain rules, regulations, and policies to health service facilities to ensure compliance with State and Federal regulatory requirements.
- Other duties as assigned.

- Ability to be flexible with work schedules, work assignments, travel, and mandatory overtime and weekends when needed.

- Physical ability and energy to traverse large healthcare facilities for extended periods of time during surveys/inspections.
