Job description

Do you desire a position where you have the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of young children? Then look no further! The Riverside Child Care Regional Office within the California Department of Social Services is seeking critical thinkers who are motivated self-starters, and possess excellent written and oral communication skills. If this is you, we want you on board as our newest Office Technician.

The Office Technician (OT)(Typing) will provide all clerical support to include: typing reports and correspondences, answering and screening telephone call from the public, and gathering information for statistics. The incumbent will make travel arrangements, prepare travel claims and monthly travel summary reports. You will processes highly confidential personnel transactions, maintains personnel files and attendance records, completes attendance reports, and employee benefit forms.

The OT (T) will prepare office statistical reports including monthly workload volume, personnel and other monthly summary reports, complete billing and record keeping functions for the civil penalty system, have knowledge of office equipment, and arrange for repair/maintenance of equipment as needed. The OT (T) orders office supplies and maintains contact with department personnel, outside agencies and general public. Must be able to assist with the workload demands of the office. The incumbent may also provide lead clerical support to a limited number of clerical staff.

Working Conditions

This position may be eligible for hybrid telework under California Government Code Section 14200 for eligible applicants residing in California. All telework schedules are subject to change and may be reevaluated at any time. Telework does not change the terms and conditions of employment, the essential functions of job duties, or required compliance with the Department of Social Services policies.

Use of a computer for several hours a day which involves sitting most of the time but may include walking or standing for brief periods. Attend meetings, workshops and training associated with job duties. Work hours and schedules may vary.

The reporting work location for this position is 3737 Main Street, Riverside, CA. The office is located in the downtown area of near restaurants, coffee shops, and conveniently located near the 60 and 91 freeways.

Special Requirements

  • The position(s) require(s) the ability to type at a minimum speed as designated on the Class Specifications (link available in the additional documentation section). You must obtain a valid typing certificate confirming your ability to meet the minimum typing speed, prior to being hired. This position is subject to fingerprinting clearance by the Department of Justice.

Training and Development assignments may be considered based on the availability of eligible candidates and are subject to approval by the Hiring Authority prior to appointment. Training and Development assignments are temporary in nature and shall not exceed twenty-four (24) months.


Candidates who reside outside of the State of California may be admitted to the job interview, but they must provide proof of residence in California prior to being eligible for appointment.
