Department Overview

The LNG/CNG Engineering department is responsible for all areas related to portable natural gas, natural gas vehicle fueling stations and portable compression services.

  • PG&E owns and operates 32 NGV stations throughout our service territory. These stations support internal vehicles, third party customers and the refilling of portable natural gas trailers.
  • PG&E owns and operates almost 300+ various sized LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas) and CNG (Compressed Natural Gas) trailers to support Gas Operations for planned and unplanned gas outages along with wintertime peak shaving.
  • PG&E owns and operates multiple portable compression units utilized to provide pipeline support.

The responsibilities of the department include:

  • The engineering, project management and project execution for all capital projects.
  • Maintenance of all existing equipment and stations.
  • The fueling of over 3,000 internal and third party vehicles.
  • The portable gas response to over hundreds of locations per year to support planned outages.
  • Peak shaving with portable natural gas during cold weather events.

Position Summary

This position will be responsible for all engineering and technical functions that relate to portable natural gas odorization. Included is the expectation of leadership and mentor support to their organization. It contributes toward Gas Safety Excellence goals by improving safety, reliability and affordability for one or more asset families and one or more life cycles.

Location is flexible within the PG&E Service Territory (there is preference for the incumbent to based out of San Ramon), please note hiring leader will make final decision of what are appropriate headquarters for the role based on business need.

Position will require up to 25% of travel time in work schedule.

This position is hybrid, working from your remote office and your assigned work location based on business need. The assigned work location will be within the PG&E Service Territory.

PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity. Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed towards the middle or entry point of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.​

A reasonable salary range is:​

Bay Area Minimum:$128,000

Bay Area Maximum:$218,000

&/OR

California Minimum:$122,000

California Maximum:$207,000

This job is also eligible to participate in PG&E's discretionary incentive compensation programs.

Qualifications-

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or equivalent (i.e., PE certification).
  • 5 year's natural gas experience.

Desired Qualifications:


• Project Management experience.

    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
    • Thorough knowledge of natural gas engineering concepts, principles and practices.
    • Technical knowledge of compressed and liquefied natural gas properties and regulatory/safety requirements around transportation and storage
    • Knowledge of compressed gas equipment maintenance and operations.
    • Good leadership skills to effectively supervise staff.
    • Analytical problem solving and decision making skills.
    • Project management skills.
    • Strong collaboration and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities


• Leads and coaches team regarding technical issues, operational issues, training and operations support.


• Coordinates with the financial organizations in PG&E to ensure that budget forecasts are developed and tracked, and to ensure that capital and expense budgets are sufficient to meet ongoing and future business needs.


• Coordinates with PG&E standards departments to ensure that all portable equipment has departmental standards going forward. Coordinates with facility engineering and project engineering departments to ensure consistency in process with liquefied natural gas (LNG)/compressed natural gas (CNG) operations.


• Ensures support is provided to Operations field employees. These assets are closely tied to the LNG/CNG Operations field employees and supervisors, and are critical to safely and efficiently executing Pipeline Safety Enhancement Plan projects. The Operations group will need support for maintenance plans, training, emergency response, and technical support.


• Interfaces with Gas Safety Excellence team in being an expert in the assets to develop and revise asset management plans, project forecasting and provide presentations to leadership. Many of these projects and initiatives will lead to risk reduction efforts which successful candidate will be expected to develop, implement and document.


• Continuously identifies improvements in all areas of portable natural gas odorization. Develops a strategy and implements the improvement.

Supervisor Responsibility:


• Minimum team of 2 engineers and 2 technical specialists.


• Communicates clear expectations, monitors performance using performance management techniques, observes and coaches employees in the field about safe work practices and compliance to standards, ensures that training, development and required certifications are current, takes disciplinary action as needed, and administers the appropriate labor contract.
