Job Description:
KGI's Occupational Therapy Doctorate (OTD) program will emphasize occupation-centered practice, innovation, leadership and advocacy, cultural responsiveness, lifestyle medicine for whole-person care, research and evidence, and optimized service delivery throughout the curriculum. The core occupational therapy faculty position will be involved in curriculum design, teaching, service, and research in KGI's OTD program. The KGI OTD program offers a supportive and dynamic academic work environment with an emphasis on teamwork, innovation, and active learning. The position is a ranked faculty role as either assistant/associate/or Full professor, commensurate with experience. The position is full-time on a 12-month schedule. A KGI OTD faculty member exemplifies an enthusiastic commitment to innovative teaching, scholarship, and service to further the mission and values of the Institute, OTD program, and occupational therapy profession.
Keck Graduate Institute (KGI) was founded in 1997 as the first higher education institution in the United States dedicated exclusively to education and research related to the applied life sciences. Education and Experience:
A doctoral degree from a United States Department of Education accredited program is required. A Post-professional OTD, Ph.D., ScD, or EdD degree is preferred.
Licensure as an Occupational Therapist in the state of California is required, as well as certification as an Occupational Therapist by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT).
At least two years of clinical practice experience is required, previous experience with tertiary teaching and scholarship is preferred.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities: Individuals must possess knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the essential function of the position, or be able to explain or demonstrate how the essential functions may be performed, with or without, reasonable accommodations, using some other combination of skills and abilities.
Teaching
  • Provide active, innovative, and high-caliber learning experiences in relevant areas of expertise including anatomy/kinesiology, orthopedics, and general medicine.
  • Fulfill SPHS teaching load requirements.
  • Serve as course coordinator or contributing faculty, as assigned.
  • Participate in the mentorship of student research and capstone projects.
  • Ensure compliance with ACOTE standards through course design and assessment.
  • Provide documented expertise in areas of teaching responsibility and demonstrate knowledge of the content delivery methods.

Scholarship
  • Develop and carry out a scholarship plan supporting OTD program initiatives, student research, or other relevant professional needs.
  • Disseminate scholarship through professional presentations, publications, or other relevant avenues.
  • Demonstrate evidence-based approaches to support expertise in content areas.

Service
  • Serve on OTD program, SPHS, and KGI committees, as assigned.
  • Provide student advisement and mentorship.
  • Participate in professional association activities or leadership.
  • Support clinical and capstone program and site development and relationships.
  • Engage in Institutional governance and community activities.

Professionalism
  • Support and promote diversity, equity, and inclusion in all interactions and work.
  • Demonstrate communication and interpersonal skills that support the mission, vision, and values of the OTD program, SPHS, and KGI.
  • Support professional, interprofessional, and clinical collaborations through developing collegial relationships within and outside the Institute.

  • Ability to lift 30 pounds/participate in light set-up for recruitment and on-campus events.

Special Requirements:

Physical and Mental Requirements
Ability to maintain good concentration level while dealing with interruptions; attention to details with emphasis on accuracy; capable of giving, receiving, and analyzing information, formulating work plans, and articulating goals and action plans. Sitting in a normal seated position for extended periods of time. Standing for extended periods of time. Reaching and extending hand(s) or arm(s) in any direction. Finger dexterity required to manipulate objects with fingers rather than the whole hand(s), or arm(s), for example, using a keyboard. Communication skills using the spoken word. Ability to see within normal parameters. Ability to hear within normal parameters. Ability to bend and stoop, for example, to file. Ability to move about. Ability to lift and carry short distances up to 20 lbs., for example to lift or move office supplies, files, books and packages.
Ability to drive locally. Occasionally, will be required to stand for prolonged periods of time at activities/events on and off-campus.
