JOB SUMMARY
The Occupational Therapist-Outpatient (Out.pt) provides patient care including evaluations, Designs treatment plan based on initial evaluation and assessment. Establishes short- and long-term goals for patients. Utilizes therapeutic interventions and activities to remediate, restore, and/or compensate for losses in physical, perceptual, cognitive, sensory, psychosocial, and functional skills. Provides treatment in both individual and group settings., assessing the patient’s environment, such as work or home, to suggest modifications as needed, and teaching patients exercises and strategies to apply in their daily lives during post-acute transition.
Here, you will provide advanced treatment and comprehensive care to best address the medical, physical, emotional and vocational challenges for individuals with brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, neurological disorders, orthopedic issues, amputation, and multiples traumas.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Facilitates development and rehabilitation of patients by planning and administering medically prescribed occupational therapy.
- Meets the patient’s goals and needs and provides quality care by assessing and interpreting evaluations and test results and determining occupational therapy treatment plans in consultation with physicians or by prescription.
- Helps patients develop or regain physical or mental functioning or adjust to disabilities and to apply interventions to maximize safety and performance in activities of daily living (ADL) and instrumental activities of daily living (IADL).
- Promotes maximum independence by selecting and constructing therapies according to an individual's physical capacity, intelligence level, and interest.
- Evaluates results of occupational therapy by observing, noting, and evaluating patient’s progress and recommending and implementing adjustments and modifications.
- Complete discharge planning by consulting with physicians, nurses, social workers, and other health care workers.
Qualifications
REQUIREMENTS
- High School Diploma or GED
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Therapy, Bachelor’s degree with a certificate, or Diploma for successful completion of a post-degree program in Occupational Therapy
- Master’s degree in Occupational Therapy (OTR/L or MOTR/L), preferred.
- 3+ years of experience as an Occupational Therapist.
- CPR, BLS
- Two (2) years’ experience in an Acute Care or similar setting required.
- Ability to read, understand, and communicate fundamental clinical information with various levels of clinical understanding.
- Experience developing individualized and implementing therapy treatment plans.
EDUCATION
- High School Diploma or GED
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Therapy, Bachelor’s degree with a certificate, or Diploma for successful completion of a post-degree program in Occupational Therapy
- Master’s degree in Occupational Therapy (OTR/L or MOTR/L), preferred
CERTIFICATION, LICENSURE
- Current Occupational Therapy license in Texas
- CPR, BLS
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Effective communication skills for working with patients, families and caregivers required.
- Ability to manage patients with different types of personalities.
- Adaptable, Flexible and able to make quick decisions when plans change.
