Performs a wide range of massage services in support of the hospital's mission. To provide the highest standard of patient care within the limits of the available resources. The Massage Therapist works independently and in consultation of referring physicians with guidance of the supervisory personnel, organizing treatments to meet established criteria and proper documentation in patients' medical records.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:
1. High school diploma or equivalent.
2. Diploma from an accredited massage therapy school.
3. Current license in West Virginia or licensure obtained within 90 days of hire.
4. Obtain certification in Basic Life Support within 30 days of hire date.
5. West Virginia state criminal background check required, and Federal, if applicable, for DHHR BMS regulated area.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:
1. Training in fluid management
EXPERIENCE:
1. One year experience in acute hospital setting.
CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The statements described here are intended to describe the general nature of work being performed by people assigned to this position. They are not intended to be constructed as an all-inclusive list of all responsibilities and duties. Other duties may be assigned.
1. Uses a variety of massage therapy techniques, such as Swedish massage, neuromuscular massage and combined Decongestive therapy (including lymphatic drainage) and myofascial release under supervision of a licensed physical therapist.
2. Provides massage therapy services for exercise preparation, pain reduction, lymphedema treatment, body awareness, circulation, stimulation and improvement of breathing patterns.
3. Consults with physical therapist as necessary for development of treatment plan, integrating massage therapy services.
4. Safely assists in the transport and handling of all patients according to WVUH's Safe Patient Handling Policy.
5. Follows current care plan and algorithm for patient handling using the appropriate equipment.
6. Documents the massage therapy provided to patient in the EMR. Outlining type of massage given, patient's response to massage, length of treatment and needs for future treatment (number of visits and frequency).
7. Supports physical therapy services through patient exercise assistance to improve function and mobility.
8. Prepares patient for treatment i.e., proper attire and draping, obtains equipment, prepares treatment room.
9. Observes and reports to physical therapist, all concerns or changes in patient's condition while under the care of the Rehabilitation Services Department.
10. Participates in education and training of West Virginia University staff, students, patients, and family members to assure the appropriate delivery of care and to achieve the WVU Hospital mission.
11. Maintains supply inventory by obtaining supplies from Central Supply and submitting inventory list for items to be purchased from outside vendors.
12. Adherence to all Infection Control policies 100% of the time.

1. The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health recommends minimizing the need for employees to manually lift patients, and limit safe patient handling to 35 pounds. All transfers, lifts and re-positioning will be completed utilizing the lift equipment and/or other patient handling aids as indicated by the patient's profile and appropriate algorithms.
2. Heavy/Hard work: Work requires strength and/or stamina, lifting, moving, stooping, reaching, standing, walking, and carrying of materials and equipment weighing 40+lbs.
3. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
