Occupational Therapist (Ot)-Pediatric-Part Time

In the summer of 2022, Marty’s Orchid House began the journey of strengthening the comprehensive care model for enrolled children, by creating the in-house therapy department. Within a short amount of time, the staff and families have found that providing in-house therapy services improves the carryover of interventions and strengthens the ability of children to implement the skills they have acquired. The Occupational Therapist (OT) will have a unique opportunity to help assist in the continued development of the therapy program. Marty's Orchid House is a day program that services young children from the ages of 18 months to 6 years that have autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and overlapping health conditions. The OT should be highly motivated, passionate and innovative, providing comprehensive services in the day center setting. The main role of the OT will be to assess and evaluate children and to implement an appropriate plan of care. Sessions are conducted during a child's day, while enrolled in the day center program (7:30 AM - 5:30 PM, M-F). Schedules are consistent but may be altered daily, based on the attendance or absence of assigned children to maintain a full schedule. Charting is completed in between sessions and during down time. Very rarely will charting ever need to be completed outside normal business hours. Hourly pay ensures that you will not be penalized for a child's absence, and it allows for adequate charting time.

The OT should take a holistic approach to care, as the entire child. A child's environment, and the thoughts and opinions of their parents/guardians are taken into consideration when developing treatments/interventions. Charting includes sending notes to a child's parent/guardian in our interactive communication app, Brightwheel, to keep parents/guardians involved and aware of what to work on at home. It is of utmost importance that you maintain professionalism through appropriate communication skills, as carryover plays an integral part in meeting a child’s needs.

You will be required to stand for long periods of time; use hands to handle, feel, and control objects; walk for long periods of time; bend and twist the body; and be physically active for long periods of time without getting tired or out of breath. You will also be required to implement interventions at the child’s level of play, which may result in crawling on the floor, sitting on the floor, kneeling, squatting and reaching overhead.

Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds independently, in order to support children as needed.
