The availability of funding is scheduled for review before the grant expiration date and periodically thereafter. Continued employment is contingent on the continued availability of funds.****
The Occupational Health & Safety SpecialistRegistered Nurse serves as a subject matter expert and is responsible for managing and providing Occupational Health and safety prevention measures and strategies for agency employees and managers. Characteristic duties include ensuring OSHA compliance, OSHA training, performing quality assurance of health and safety programs throughout the agency, and ensuring programs address items such as, but not limited to, eye and hearing conservation, respiratory protection, blood-pathogen safety, etc. The incumbent is responsible for creating and managing plans and systems to identify staff who are in settings with potential exposure to hazards. Conducts risk assessments and recommends actions to staff and management to prevent or minimize health hazards. Keeps abreast of regulations, policies, and guidelines and ensures communication of updates or changes to agency employees and managers. May perform hands-on patient care.
Minimum Qualifications
- Must be a Registered Nurse Licensed in Virginia
- Comprehensive knowledge and experience with Occupational Health and safety principles, practices, and regulations (i.e. OSHA regulations)
- Comprehensive knowledge and experience with Industrial hygiene and general industry safety standards
- Knowledge of Occupational Health and safety hazard prevention techniques, standards and systems
- Ability and experience performing Occupational Health and safety risk assessments
- Ability to develop, plan, and manage Occupational Health and safety programs/systems
- Ability and experience in training and educating others
- Strong communication skills
- Skilled with Microsoft Office Suite (i.e. word, excel, PowerPoint)
Additional Considerations

- Experience teaching adult learners
- BLS certification
- Requires ability to be fit tested with an N95 respirator or equivalent
