Under the direction of the Administrative Coordinator, the Occupational Health Nurse in The WorkPlace functions as a primary care nurse or an independent practitioner in providing direct patient/client care and services in the field of Occupational Health. The Occupational Health Nurse is proficient in physical assessment and health teaching, acts independently to relate health care issues and problems to Occupational Health and assumes some designated managerial functions. In addition, the Registered Nurse participates in collaborative team efforts for improving processes and systems for customer satisfaction and improved bottom line consistent with Department goals.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Performs drug test collections, including breath alcohol testing accurately and competently adhering to all protocols as outlined by the DOT and/or laboratory collection procedures printed on collection form. EBT certified. Demonstrates 99.9 % accuracy and completeness of documentation and covers after hours testing 80% of time when called.
- Performs ancillary testing as trained in an accurate, competent and friendly manner (ie blood pressure, pulse, vision and hearing testing, EKG, PFT, phlebotomy, etc) Demonstrates 99.9% accuracy and completeness of documentation.

- Reviews vaccine information statements and performs immunizations (ie MMR, Td, Hep B, etc) and PPD's in a professional and courteous manner.
- Performs physical assessments in a competent, professional manner within the allotted time frame and determines the need for appropriate client/ patient education. Recognizes own limitations in assessing clients/patients and seeks appropriate resources when appropriate and necessary. Recognizes and addresses problems in client's physical/mental status and collaborates with MD/PA/NP and/or 911 as needed.
- Documents physicals and communicates accurately and completely, reviewing history and ancillary testing. Utilizes Right to Know and Occupational Health standards.
- Relates physical status to job tasks and recommends appropriate restrictions/accommodations as needed.
- Makes confidential contact via clear written feedback on designated forms and verbal via the telephone in a friendly, accurate and confidential manner (i.e. results correspondence, no-shows, reason for delays in medical clearance, etc.) Reviews charts and provides company correspondence as requested by customer in a timely manner with 99.9% accuracy and completeness.
- Maintains daily documentation of the calibration of the audiometer, refrigerator/freezer log, and other equipment in an accurate and consistent manner as assigned.
- Participates in Company Training, such as BBP, ABP, CPR/AED, Ergonomics and Fit Training. Participates in staff education and assists in staff orientation and acts as staff resource.
- Assists with development, recording and updating of company protocols and TWP clinical polices and procedures.
- Actively participated in onsite work and evening coverage as needed. Volunteers to assist for the above to benefits the overall performance of The Workplace and its clients.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Experience:
- One year of experience in Occupational Health and/or Medical Office setting.
- Additional Medical/Surgical Nursing background preferred.
Education:
- Graduate of an accredited school of Nursing.
Licenses/Certifications:
- Current licensure in NYS as a Registered Professional Nurse.
- Physical Assessment Certification.
- Other job appropriate training/certification encouraged.

Individuals in this position are required to exercise universal precautions, use personal protective equipment and devices, and learn the policies concerning infection control.
- Must be able to successfully complete on the job training for competence in drug screen collections, EKG, PFT, audiometric testing, EBT, Fit testing and other testing procedures.
- Thorough understanding and use of Occupational Health Information System.
- Possesses excellent communication and customer service skills.
