Position: Safety Professional
Peak North America US encompasses a group of companies who provide fabrication, construction, machinery and plant design for industrial projects Canada and the US. Rooted in the forest industry, Peak North America US is continuously refining the group of businesses to include innovative projects that meet the demands of the industrial sector. Companies include Peak North America Construction US and Endurance Equipment both in Irvington, AL, and Advanced Sawmill Machinery in Holt, Florida. Canadian operations include Peak North America Construction and Heartland Steel Structures in Prince George, BC, and Peak North America Manufacturing in Canal Flats, BC.
Peak North America US is seeking a highly engaged, energetic, Safety Professional to join our team in Irvington, AL. The successful candidate will be required to travel to our operations primarily within the US. The ideal candidate will be self-driven, have extensive knowledge in Occupational Health and Safety and environmental regulations, a strong written and verbal communicator, and a capable problem solver. This position will be responsible for supporting the development, implementation, and sustainment of Health and Safety (H&S) and emergency management solutions.
Primary Responsibilities and Duties:
Reporting to the Manager of Health, Safety & Environment responsibilities will include but not be limited to:
Development:
- Assist operations to maintain the Company Safety, Quality, and Environmental Management Programs, including System Manuals, Policies, Standard Operating Procedures, Safe Work Instructions, Forms, Guides, reporting, etc.;
- Facilitate the Company OSHA requirements.
- Oversee the coordination of all activities related to the document control procedure, including the maintenance of the OSHA 300 reporting, supervision/maintenance of electronic and physical document archives, as well as document status and distribution access. Control the release and distribution of documents and Company materials;
- Oversee the maintenance of Company profiles and submittals to subcontractor prequalification websites PICS, ISN. Monitor new and revised legislation to ensure that Company standards remain current to the latest safety, quality, and environmental requirements;
Audit & Inspection:
- Maintain the inspection and audit program to ensure that health, safety, and environmental standards are in place and in practice;
- Conduct random and scheduled field audits. Perform worksite HSE inspections and maintain records of the inspection;
- Audit company policies, practices, and procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory agencies;
- Oversee the audit of site submittals to head office to ensure that proper documentation is being utilized and/or information is up to date (toolbox meetings, FLRA, investigations, inspections, maintenance records, etc.).
Promotion & Communication:
- Maintain, and promote a safety culture with clients, suppliers, and fellow employees;
- Oversee the scheduling of training sessions and preparation of training materials;
- Deliver site specific Health and Safety, quality, and environmental orientations for new Employees;
- Maintain a positive and professional working relationship with regulatory agencies to promote safety and assist in the resolution of any non-compliance issues.
- All other duties as requested.
Education & Experience
- Current designation or ability to achieve Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Construction Site Officer (NCSO), or other OHS designation;
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in OHS environment, preferably in the construction industry;
- A combination of experience and training may be considered.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook are essential;
- Bi-Lingual (English and Spanish) considered an asset;
- Competent planning, organizational, coordination, and time management skills;
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Able to build and maintain relationships;
- Demonstrate the ability to interact effectively with levels of the organization, exhibiting diplomacy and tact;
- Able to manage multiple priorities simultaneously in a fast-paced environment. Able to meet tight deadlines and work well under pressure. Is proactive, attentive to detail, action oriented, and results driven;
- Able to rapidly input data and retrieve records and information;
- Available to travel to project sites frequently and work extended hours (when required);
- Possess a valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record;
- Possess a valid passport, or able to obtain one, as occasional travel to Canada may be required.
